On Aug 16th, which I believe is one day past the deadline to announce a move this year, you will find the FSU and Clemson are quite firm with the ACC…....
I have absolutely nothing to go off of but my gut and for some reason I think FSU eventually ends up in the Big XII. I don’t know when that will be. I just know the school’s financial issues are serious.

The ACC’s money flow issues are about to change big time when the new Playoff format kicks in.
I read somewhere where the new bowl money goes from the 150 million currently offered in this BCS format to around 600 MILLION!....80% of that will go to the “Big 5” Playoff Conferences. I don’t know how that gets divided, but FSU will not need to have to be at a soup kitchen in a few years….
Money directly impacts the sport, those who don’t think so are blind and crazy. I wouldn’t expect VT to understand, since like the NC schools their close rivals are in the ACC. You don’t even play a hint of an SEC team. FSU and Clemson live with one right in the backyard. We recruit against them, we play them, we compete against them in everything. If we don’t keep up with them we don’t survive and are regulated to basically a Prairie View A&M type of team in comparison. Are we jealous of SEC money? Of course we are, that’s why we want it too. We HAVE to keep up with our SEC neighbors or they will continue to pull ahead in recruiting, facilities, etc. No facilities will not win games on the field, but it gives your program more pull over its close neighbor.
It makes NO SENSE to settle for good enough, I don’t know why so many people think that way.
But still… I think winning takes care of everything. Sure, for a potential recruit the SEC sounds enticing… (And they have money to pay elite coaches) But if you had FSU, Clemson, Miami, and VT all at the top of their games… that’s attractive. Also, how many national championships does Pitt have? The ACC has teams with history and prestige… but we need to WIN.
The SEC doesn’t get so much money because they are the SEC. They get it because they WIN. If you get an offer from the SEC, I can’t blame you for leaving… but the Big 12?
Big 12 had 6-7 teams in the final polls. The ACC had half that number. You really want to argue the ACC is better then the Big 12? I don’t see why people try to trash the conference, sure Texas isn’t as big as it was but when they place 6 or 7 teams in the final polls compared to 2 MAYBE 3 depending on poll do you have any room to talk? They get paid more and their teams consistently finish higher then our lowly ACC teams. You can click on pretty much any poll on the link provided and get about the same result.
Keep your geographic rivalries with powderpuffs…....I want to go west.
They get paid an average of 6.5 million dollars a year less per school (I posted the link from David Teel in another thread) and this supposedly huge TV contract has yet to materialize rumored at 2.6 billion is a billion less than the ACC.
Been saying it for months, when will you listen…..just winning will no longer matter very soon just playing a powderpuff ACC schedule. And it will be very hard to find quality OOC opponents because no one up top needs to play a lesser ACC school when their conference and the big 4 hold more weight. Guess that suits you though, a UNC v Southern Miss game would be much more exciting then a SEC or Big 12 opponent.
It’s a shame Clemson had to drop scheduled series against SEC and Big 12 opponents to make room for 1959 powerhouse Syracuse. At least we’ve been playing Auburn, USCjr, and soon UGA on a regular basis.
Just out of curiosity, how long can you guys hold your breath? Also, how long do you expect to carry on a moot conversation. This is a case that is essentially a matter of Stare decisis. It is settled.
Clemson and FSU would be foolish to even think of leaving for the B12. We are talking about a league that nearly evaporated and you want to get involved with that? If Golden gets Miami straightened out and UNC makes great progress under Fedora, we will have FSU,Clemson,VT,Miami UNC and even NC State will give 6 solid Football Schools with all Above Average to Large Seating Capacities that will provide the ACC with what it needs to be financially successful if this league can start winning the essential games.
A school like Miami is a lot like Notre Dame is one key aspect. They are a national brand. Sure, they have crappy attendance, but the nation loves to watch “Thug-U” on TV.
The Big 12 just stabilized itself, and will further once it expands. And you say we would be foolish to leave, but you are living on “ifs”. If UNC….If Miami…..If. We would be a fool not to leave this oppressive league.
Clemson is making strides to bring itself back to greatness, and all you people want to do is play in a crappy league. If you want to be the best you gotta play with the best. FSU will leave eventually….then what of your master plan?

Do you honestly think we would have a problem replacing FSU? Don’t get me wrong, I would hate to see them leave, but the ACC would survive. It really would. FSU is not leaving. Just like Clemson is not leaving.
The only way Clemson and FSU would leave is if the SEC came calling. We all know that is highly unlikely.
Yes we would have a MAJOR problem replacing FSU, you seriously think we wouldn’t? Wow….can’t wait until Sem sees this. Or the other FSU fans, calling them basically disposable. If the ACC loses any combination of Clemson or FSU then they have major problems, as do the teams left flopping like a fish out of water.
I agree it is moot, and Clemtgrs can say how he hates the ACC all he wants. That is his opinion.
What I refuse to let fly are complete falsehoods stated as fact.
FACT: The ACC has made more than the Big 12 for the Big 12s ENTIRE existence.
FACT: There is no Big 12 TV contract yet and the rumor is it will be AT BEST equal on a per school basis to the ACCs. The ACC has a 15 year deal with the #1 sports outlet on the planet with unequaled content delivery. EVERY ACC game will be televised on some platform of ESPN.
FACT: Per Berry Tramel of the OK City Newspaper, the ACC plays BY FAR the best non conference schedule of any conference.

Now I am willing to admit the Big 12 is a better football conference right now based on last year, but I am not willing to admit it will be next year though. That stuff fluctuates based on winning.
You think Baylor is trending up or down in wins? Kansas St? Iowa St? How bout Texas Tech? Texas is in decline and Oklahoma is going to be more of the same. WVU and TCU are an unknown in a new league but their recruiting has not improved based on rankings.
Now what are the trends for Clemson, FSU, NCSU, UNC, Maryland, UVA, Duke, Miami? I venture to say they are all trending up. Staying the same? GT, VT, WAKE more than likely which are all good already. In fact the only team I see trending down is BC.
So tell me what will be the better conference in the future?
