The ACC will invite UConn as the replacement for Maryland. Its the same school really. Good academics, decent football but not great, good basketball and NE location. Conference will look pretty much the same. Don’t love the addition, but I expect it will be the addition.

If UConn doesn’t get the nod…these schools could be considered (in likely order):

1. Louisville (this is who I would go after HARD if I was the ACC. Solid basketball and football and a good brand right now. Louisville a decent TV market.)
2. USF (the Bulls would jump at the chance to join a BCS conference, as would most Big East teams. The Tampa TV market is nice and the athletics at USF are getting better and better by the year. Huge recruiting territory in Central and West Florida the ACC could roll into)
3. Cincinnati (the Bearcats will do all they can to beg the ACC for an invite. Good football and basketball. Decent TV market. But not a very sexy addition in my opinion.)

Now though, you wonder if FSU and Clemson get Big 12 attention again. Mostly FSU. Could the SEC go after NC State and Va Tech? Cange is in the air….

hopefully it all leads to a conference champion type playoff model. Its building towards that…

I am not sure that UMD wasn’t “fired” are a least persuaded to leave the ACC to make room for Notre Dame….

Interesting…Never thought of that but I find it unlikely. I think the ACC was as surprised by this as anyone. Does this really benefit the Big 10 other than more mouths to feed? Do recruits really get excited about playing in the Big 10?

I think this was solely driven by their president and AD neither of which has any ties to Maryland or the ACC. I also think they will regret it. Say what you want about ACC schools but at least they are close by.

The good news is now the Big 10 saved the ACC from adding Rutgers. Yeah!

Forced out? LOL,  Maryland has armour all money and a big market area, meets 10 academic guidelines. The big 10 TV contract will sky rocket adding the DC area. UConn will probably replace FSU when it goes to the Big 12, UConn is a Mrs. basketball Jones school.

Trading Maryland for UConn is basically a net zero effect. Decent basketball programs, subpar football programs, mediocre fanbases who care more about pro sports. I think Louisville would be an upgrade, but the ACC doesn’t appear to be interested.

How has that under armour money helped them so far???  Is that why they’re running a deficit and had to cut programs?

underarmour money only really comes into play if you are winning championships.

That’s why the UA dude wanted them to move.  So he wouldn’t have to fund that pathetic excuse for an athletic department.  For Maryland it makes sense.  They’ll never compete for the ACC in football because they can’t get past FSU and Clemson and they’ll never sniff a bball title with Pitt and Cuse coming in.  If you’re going to be between middle-of-the-road and roadkill in the sports that matter you might as well suck for more money.

I’m going to look forward to spending our under armour money on some new Nike Uniforms and Cleats.  Maybe we can get some with our state flag on it….no wait, that’s just a ploy for national attention.
