The Big East may dissolve football, with the new playoff structure the bowl games will probably be moved around. So if I could redo the bowl selection for the ACC, with the knowledge that the ACC will have 14 or 16 members, plus Notre Dame taking a bowl tie in, this is how I’d like to see it:
Assuming nobody in the ACC makes the playoff.
1 Orange - ACC winner vs SEC / B1G / Notre Dame
2 CFA - ACC runner up vs SEC
3a Belk - 2nd place Coastal vs 3rd place Atlantic / Notre Dame
3b Russell - 2nd place Atlantic vs 3rd place Coastal / Notre Dame
5a Pin Stripe - Best remaining Northern school ND vs B1G
5b Gator - Best remaining Southern school / ND vs Big12
7 Sun - ACC #9 vs PAC12 / BYU
8 Music City - ACC #10 vs SEC
9 Independence - ACC #11 vs C-USA / MWC / BYU
10 Military - ACC #12 vs Army / Navy / Air Force
I have 12 bowl tie ins with the ACC taking what used to belong to the Big East. The ACC is not going to play very many cross division games, so instead of hitching up with another conference in the Belk and Russel bowl, let’s just play 2 cross division game and keep the pay out within the conference. I can’t imagine that the Belk and Russel bowls having a problem with that.
