The suit was a symbolic gesture filed by the ACC on behalf of the 11 remaining members. I’ve read the suit was the idea of the school presidents to send the message that the entire $52,300,000 would be expected within 30 days of Maryland leaving the conference. It is my belief the suit will not go to court. If it does the ACC’s only obligation would be to show that the exit fee is true representation of the financial damage expected for the remaining members. If they can show that, the case would be no contest. Maryland’s only claim would be that the fee is punitive, which with proof would be shown to be false. I state again that the suit was presented by the league office at the behest of all the other league schools. The simple search on the law suit would state as much.

That is good Clem, much better than them caving in and paying 50 mil. Now we will see what it will cost for FSU and Clemson to blow this pop stand.

The ACC went from a 12 million dollar exit fee in 2011 to a 14 million fee, then a 20 million fee and now a 50 million fee….......Why not 100 Bazillion Gajillion?...I suspect the courts may look at this and say this is not a contract that will work.

It will be viewed as akin to extortion by a competent court.

Clem you are a smart guy based on your posts but I am surprised by what you fail to see here.

Maryland thinks they don’t have to pay. The only way they can be forced to is to sue them and force their hand. Did you not notice that the suit is signed on by both Clemson and FSU? If yall are trying to leave then why are you enforcing the buyout? You should be working to undermine it. You are not.

Also, just because you vote against something does not mean it doesn’t apply to you. You think laws (and contracts in this case) are unenforceable because you vote against them? If you don’t walk then and there and you agree to stay then you agree to it. The Big East teams are getting out early because they didn’t have these agreements in place prior to all this mess and the Big East knows it cant fight them all. Here we have 14 fighting 1.

This will be a cakewalk in court if the ACC sticks to its guns. This suit shows you that it is. Sucks to be Maryland although I am looking forward to the Kevin Plank/University of Maryland Press Box at Kenan Stadium.

FSU attorneys are on record as saying the exit fee is unenforceable, they will be able to study it in detail now. They want this suit to go forward full speed ahead.

The onus is on Maryland to show the fee as punitive. That is 100% fact. The suit brought by the ACC was not only a reaction to the inflammatory words of Maryland’s chancellor, but also a preemptive move to block any action on the part of Maryland to move to pay less. I would think any fan of any other ACC school would want to see the fee paid in full.

Why the SEC has no exit fee? Do you support the reinstitution of slavery also.
