Thought he’s always been underrated. Made Minnesota respectable in his one year there. Of course he held Oregon to 19 points in the title game and did a real nice job with Penn State this past season. Seems to get more criticism than he deserves.
Great hire, it kinda leaves me worried because GT has always been a giant killer and all the indicators are that clemson is the giant on their schedule
Mixed emotions from the Tech faithful because when he was our DC before, we weren’t very good on defense. I couldn’t believe it at first because of that. However, after thinking about it, there is definitely more good there. When he was named DC at Tech before, it was his first DC job and it was for a defensive HC who apparently dictated things. His time at Auburn is tough to derive much from because Chizik just didn’t know how to run a major program (as stories have stated since he was fired). Roof is still a legend at Tech from his playing days and sounds like a very good recruiter (which we desperately needed) so I think the hire will turn out to be a positive. Now that we finally have athletes at the QB position, the offense should be fine so, here’s to meeting Clemson and FSU is many CG’s to come.
While many Duke fans have negative opinions of Roof due to his failures as a head coach, most would also tell you that he was a great defensive coordinator. I think this is a tremendous hire for Tech.
Hey everyone, I am new to the board. Just got recruited over by one of my buddies.
Everyone seems to have pretty positive views of Roof, but I am not thrilled. All I know of the guy was that he didn’t do a very good job at Auburn. I hope I am wrong here, but I have a feeling that our defense won’t be getting much better any time soon.
Looks like we’ve added Mike Pelton, DL coach from Auburn. Not familiar with him. Anybody have any insights?
How did you all feel about the job Charles Kelly did?
I think it says a lot that a large portion of the fans and players wanted him to get the DC job, even with his limited experience. Has a rep as a solid recruiter, solid coach and great, hard working guy. I think he’ll do well for ya’ll. Hated to see him go, esp. to another ACC school.
I’m shocked they didn’t give Kelly an opportunity to become the full-time DC. The difference in the GT defense under Groh and under Kelly were extreme.
