When is the last time the Gators played an out of conference game outside of the state of Florida?  Any guesses?  It’s another huge challenge at the swamp today… Maybe Timmy T. can just sit this one out and watch - or play an actual challenging game on PS3.  As much as I don’t like the Dawgs, I respect their opening game and they don’t have a picnic today, either.  Of course, if the Noles play the way we have seen them play the past couple of years, our game today will be a challenge - at least until the fourth quarter…

UF does itself a disservice by not scheduling a tougher OOC schedule.  You don’t learn anything about your team when you play patsies!

What happens if/when the SEC is not as strong? Will UF get the same respect? This season I have no room to talk as a UNC fan (2 FCS teams), but in seasons to come they play Tennessee at a home and home and Minnesotta. Also, they’re in line to play LSU next season. UF is a strong team, and should not shy away from any game anywhere.

Its hard to justify the schedule, except that it’s made with the idea that, Tenn, Ga, LSU, and FSU will all be competitive and that should be 4 top 15 teams every year.  Unfortunately two of those progames are in the toilet, and LSU isn’t far from heading bakc to the Jerry Dinardo days.  No excuse though.

For your answer.

The last time the Gators played an OOC game outside their home state was back in 1991.  That year, they went to Syracuse and got hammered in the Bubble Dome 35-17.  Hilighted by Kirby Dar Dar’s 95 yard kickoff return in the first half.  This is currently the second largest such hiatus for a SEC/ACC Team, as FSU last played an OOC game outside the State of Florida on September 9, 1990, when they beat Michigan 50-31 in the Big House.  Hey, at least Miami beat OU in Norman this year!

That game paled in comparison to the Cheerios Bowl where future Hall of Famer Jerome Bettis ran over the Gators for 165 yards and 3 TDs as Notre Dame beat Florida.  Figures Jerome’s nickname is “The Bus” as Florida players don’t go to class!!!

PS.  UNC 98, as a New York Giants fan, thank you for Hakeem Nicks, who is making us forget about Plaxico “Don’t Drop The Soap” Buress!!!  As well as giving us the greatest defensive player ever, Lawrence Taylor, which is why I was flabbergasted why UNC fans picked Charlie Justice as the “Face of the Program” in ESPN’s poll.  Come on, I know Justice was great for his time, but picking him over LT?? Come on, this is the LT we are talking about!!!  Even Al Pacino agrees that he changed Linebackng FOREVER!!!

Florida State played BYU at Utah this year. Over the past few years alone we travelled to Syracuse, Louisville, South Bend, and Colorado. We also played a game against Iowa State in Kansas City. This is just dating back from 2002. I could go on about where FSU travelled in to the 90’s.

Also, Miami beat OU in Miami this year. They lost in Norman last year.

Justice was a legend in North Carolina and led UNC to its highest national ranking and biggest bowl games at a time when the college game was better than the pro game, hence him being ranked the highest by Carolina fans.

I was just referring to Nathan Explosion’s post. He claimed FSU had not had an OOC game outside of the state of Florida since 1990. I wanted to point out that we 6 such games in the past 8 years alone.

I have to agree that L.T. was the man back there. One of our guys reminded me a lot of L.T. He was Derrick Thomas. Fun to watch and a playmaker. Derrick terrorized QB’s throughout his career at Bama and Kansas City. I would have loved to seen those two play together.

LOL, good information. Who is your source?
