ACC wants $120 million on the next television deal and I don’t mind if they split up the basketball and football contracts. Also I think it would be good to have ESPN ABC to show ACC games during the day and for the primetime game to go on NFL Network.

The ACC is still in it’s exclusive negotiation with ESPN. This is an obvious ploy on someone’s part to try and make ESPN believe there are other interested parties. The ACC is reportly looking for a $125 million contract, and I feel they will not get it no matter where they end up. The NFL network would probably lose subscribers if it started carrying a lot of ACC games. People watch that channel to see NFL programming. With the NFL playing Thursday night and periodic Saturday games something would have to give. I think the ACC is barking up the wrong tree. They should be looking at forming their own network or making a package deal with a conference like the PAC 10. They could put early games with ACC teams and late games with PAC 10 teams. Of course, I’m not involved in any way with the ACC.

I do not want to have to pay for the NFL network for a primetime game.

A friend of mine emailed me this. I don’t have a link but here’s some food for thought.

“ESPN has made it clear in private discussions with the ACC that it does not plan to approach the ACC’s lofty target rights fee of around $120 million per year, an aggressive 60 to 70 percent increase over its current deal. Media executives say the weakness of the ACC’s football teams puts the conference at a level below the Big Ten and SEC, putting it more on a par with the Pac-10 and Big 12.”

not even sure they are on par with those 2.  if so, it’s cause of tv market size.

turrible if it happens.  fsn is the only true alternative.

I agree forming it’s on TV network is the over option over time. I’d rather pay for that than the NFL network.

NOoooooooooooooooooooooo!!!  damn NFL network broadcasts are worse than FSN…. come on nothing says low rent like a network only abou 50% of the people even get.  Come on what is the Mountain West on Versus network?  Swofford would be a tool to do this in my opinion.  Why not just make your own network for all the trouble of putting COLLEGE football on the NFL NETWORK..

Mountain West pecking order in TV revenue
1. The Mountain
2. Versus
3. CBS College Sports

Without ESPN the MWC has done better.

No!

This is stupid!

Please someone fire Swofford!

OK.  I’m not going to argue why the ACC doesn’t get good TV coverage in football, but basketball?

Come on!

I think the deal with the NFL network has to do with money for the ACC and a chip for the NFL network to play in their ongoing battle with Time Warner Cable. Guess which cable company dominates the triangle market? You think people wouldn’t complain to Time Warner if Carolina or State could not be seen in the triangle? Time Warner would carry the NFL Network quick.
