I have seen some blogs mention him as a Heisman contender. I agree but Im bias. I want some outsider opinions on him.

I think he’s very good and could have a great year. I’m not sure he’s a Heisman contender, but he could be.

I don’t think he is Heisman material.

I think he is easily the most well rounded FSU qb since Weinke.  He needs to stay healthy, but his style of play is pretty wreckless.  He is tough but he knows it and it leads to big hits.  Maybe it’s the offensive line...maybe it’s the lack of experienced playmakers?  This is the first time in a while I think FSU will exceed the expectations going into the year.

He does run a lot and doesn’t like to slide or go out of bounds. He is a tough guy who is super competitive and I think that works against him sometimes.

He won’t be in the Heisman talk. He had a really good year last year before getting hurt and he wasn’t in any of the Heisman talks at the time.

True but he is a senior this year and HOPEFULLY we will be better overall. You know half the Heisman hype anyway is about being considered and talked about in the pre season.

I think he may be but it all depends on if the defense can step up and actually stop somebody. He is a great player.

The reality of the matter is Ponder has loads of potential and showcased that last season.  He’ll have a solid season with the offense (I believe) becoming more open with Jimbo/Coley running the show.  His Heisman candidacy, as recent Heisman winners evidentially display, will depend on his numbers and the team’s win-loss column.  He’ll be in the running, but won’t be invited to New York if FSU is sitting around 7 wins.

What I saw of Ponder last year really impressed me.  He is a really good QB, who under the right circumstances, could stir some trophy talk. (Did anyone really expect Mark Ingram to win the hardware at this time last year?)

I think Ponder is a very good QB that being said what happend in games vs S. Fla and others where you can blame it on the d but the offense wasn’t great either.

Thats true Ingram was not a leading candidate entering last year.

Ingram wasn’t a contender right off the bat but most Alabama fans knew he was going to be special. He had over 800 yards as a freshman and I believe he had more than 10 TDs. If it weren’t for Coffee starting Ingram would have had just as many yards as this past season. Ponder had some monster numbers during the first part of the season but he wasn’t producing TDs. He had like 4 through the first 5 games. If he can stay healthy and start strong he will have a good year. He won’t be a Heisman candidate though.
