How many Generals need to come forward to tell them this is a bad idea?

This will just reinforce their views on America not being separate of church and state.

Will conservatives come out against this Quran burning? I doubt it.

I too doubt it. If they haven’t done it by now, they won’t do it. Furthermore, I wouldn’t be surprised to hear Rush and his merry band of shitheads justify it sleight of hand. Something like “it’s their right to do it”.

The fact that the right hasn’t come out as a group to condemn it has reinforced to me the belief that the right still has yet to evolve from its racist and xenophobic roots. Sure they haven’t condoned it yet, but they haven’t condemned it either. Sin of willful silence.

They already have. Hannity had him on his show to tell him that it was going to get people killed. Beck came out against it. Neal Boortz has been quite vocal about the guy being an idiot. This guy has very little support.

So the standard is that every single Republican has to make it a point to come out with a public statement against this idiot with 50 followers or they’re under suspicion of agreeing with him?  That’s simply ridiculous. Because they owe it to Olbermann? Also ridiculous. Have all Democrats have spoken out against the environmental nut that took over the Discovery Channel office? No. Does it mean they agree? Of course not. This is simply a political game to cast aspersions.

Yes, in the past the Republicans have asked people to listen to the General. Specifically, they said his recommendations to Congress on battle conditions and strategy should be considered. I would prefer that this Quran burning idiot be ignored.

Since the argument from the left is that Hannity etc. speak for the Republicans and have the most influence, they should be the most important voices anyway it would seem.

By the way, Palin did so she can come off of your list of Quran burners.

Yes. Because 1) as leaders of this nation it is their responsibility to the public to do so when a hot scandal as such emerges, and 2) the right’s roots are largely racist/xenophobic, and this is an opportunity for the Republicans to show they’ve evolved. Apparently they’ve not.

Where is the link where Palin has come out and clearly lambasted this retarded preacher?

That’s simply illogical and petty partisanship, but let’s use your argument for a moment.

By your rationale, it would be acceptable for this preacher to conclude that Muslims are violent and support terrorism because they did not all speak out against the Times Square Bomber. That same incident would lead one to rightfully conclude that Democrats are indeed soft on terror because they did not all speak out. We could also conclude that Democrats are indeed environmental nutjobs because they didn’t all speak out against the guy that took over the Discovery Channel.

As for Palin specifically, I chose a link to a left-leaning site:

Xenophobia has been running wild with conservatives and Republicans for some time now.

1960’s: blacks and Jews
1980’s: gays
2010’s: Muslims and hispanics

This Pastor just inflames bin Laden’s view of America’s War on Terror is actually a War on Islam.

Radical conservative Muslims fighting radical conservative Christians are not good for society.

Don Quixote, nobody is arguing in favor of the pastor. Some may recognize his right, like Mayor Bloomberg, but I haven’t seen anyone support his plan.

I stand corrected on Palin. This and the fact she seems to be for marijuana legalization, perhaps there is hope for her. Well, 2 out of a million still sucks.

However, I’m not understanding how you’re drawing a parallel between what I said and your Times Square Bomber and Discovery Channel scenarios. The Koran burning is done by someone who isn’t a terrorist, just a harmless nutjob, and is controversial at best. The TSB was done by an actual terrorist. No controversy; a very real threat, not harmless. Preacher Koran Burner isn’t out to kill people; the TSB was and the DC guy did. Huge difference. I fail to see what you’re getting at with your apples v. oranges comparison.

That all said, I don’t think OBL gives a crap about Pastor Jones and his kool-aiders. OBL is more bent on destroying Americans at-large, and one crazy preacherman with a whopping congregation of 50 is a drop in his bucket. I also don’t really know why this has blown up out of proportion.

The parallel that I was attempting to make, not well enough I guess, is not about the behavior of the preacher compared with the bomber, but in the inability to fairly draw a conclusion and label someone as a sympathizer on the basis of their not making a public statement every time somebody exhibits abhorrent behavior.

On one hand, you’re saying that this long list of people need to speak out against it, though many already have, but then you say you don’t know why it has gotten to be blown out of proportion. Perhaps the people on your list see it as you described above.

You’re probably right on OBL. They may be able to use it to sway some people into fighting that were on the fence.
I agree; I don’t know why this has gotten to be such a large story either. I think he wanted his 15 minutes and he got it. I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t even do it.

Oh well, doesn’t matter now.

It’s been called off.

Here’s the question of questions: did he grow a brain, or lose his balls? I really don’t know.

What a freak. He prolly got so many death threats he decided it was in his best interest to call it off.

It was in his best interest to not do this in the first place.

I bet he will get more death threats now because he called it off.
