*Consider the SoCon heirarchy established. Entering this Saturday there was a great debate as to who the best team in the league was, Appalachian State or Elon. That is no longer a question. The Mountaineers went to Elon and stomped the Phoenix, winning 27-10. It was a resounding, statement win for this ASU program. Winning by 17, it was almost as if they walked off the field thinking, "really, you even considered doubting us?...". With the playoffs set to begin soon, watch out.

*How about the Appalachian State offense, racking up nearly 500 total yards against the top defense in the Southern Conference? As always, quarterback Armanti Edwards was the catalyst. He completed 21 of 24 passes for 281 yards and rushed for three touchdowns. The Mountaineer offense attacked Elon with great balance and had zero turnovers in the win.

*What Edwards continues to do is really amazing. He recently became the first quarterback in NCAA history to throw for 9,000 career yards and rush for 4,000 career yards. And he keeps getting better. He was nearly perfect against Elon, avoiding mistakes and managing the game. He is without question one of the top handful of individuals to ever play college football and will likely continue to grow his legacy this postseason.

*Nobody has been able to shut down Elon quarterback Scott Riddle, until now. The Appalachian State defense played their best game of the season, holding Riddle to just 212 yards passing and a season-high three interceptions. Riddle had previously not thrown more than one interception in any game this season. Riddle almost had more yards punting, 203, than he did passing.

*Even in defeat, Terrell Hudgins still gets his production. The record-breaking Elon senior caught ten passes for 127 yards. Like Edwards, he is one of the all-time greats in college football.
