Bama Blocks UT Upset

*Alabama just had their moment. Florida, ironically enough, had their moment last week against Arkansas in very similar fashion. Championship teams have to pull games out by the skin of their teeth, and maybe even get a little bit lucky sometimes. They have to step up when the game, and their season is on the line.

*Alabama and Florida have been jockeying for position atop the national polls and are seemingly on a collision course to meet in the SEC Championship Game. It's obvious these teams are virtually equally talented and very similar in terms of abilities. The national media has spent the entire season comparing the two teams. Florida wins big, Alabama wants to, and so forth. But really, Nick Saban and Urban Meyer? We didn't know you guys were this serious. One week after Florida needed a missed kick by Arkansas and an ensuing game-winner from Calebn Sturgis, the Crimson Tide one-upped UF by blocking a last-second attempt by Daniel Lincoln and UT. After Florida/Arkansas earned the top spot as perhaps the best game of the year in the SEC, Alabama/Tennessee just snatched that title with authority. Take that, Gators.

*Terrence Cody = freak. All-Americans step up when their teams need them and Cody did just that, blocking Lincoln's potential game-winning field goal as time expired. We have long known Cody could overcome double-teams at the line of scrimmage, gobble up running backs and close down buffet's. Now we now he can shut down upset bids as well.

*That game was everything we could have asked for and more. Despite the ridiculous, unrelenting expectations, the SEC always delivers. What a tremendous show put on by both Alabama and Tennessee. Smashmouth, hard-hitting, physical football. This is the SEC. This is what we are proud of and brag to our out-of-region relatives about. Just epic. What a great rivalry.

*What a gritty, clutch effort from Jonathan Crompton in a loss. Crompton threw for 265 yards, one touchdown and one interception against a defense that had been absolutely dominating all of the signal callers they had faced. Crompton made an unbelievable, career-defining throw to Luke Stocker to set up the potential game-winning field goal. Unfortunately for him, the Alabama special teams unit made one more big play than he did. Give Crompton and the Vols a lot of credit.
