Kentucky Recruiting Coordinator Chuck Smith

On the 2010 recruiting class -
"Oh we are really excited about our class. It is really kind of an athletic class. We have a lot of tall, athletic guys that can run. That is always a goal of ours and our objective to get that kind of an athlete."

On the position of need -
"We needed defensive linemen and we needed linebackers. We needed some defensive backs as well. It was kind of defensive heavy. But what we got was guys that we think that we can really develop into very, very good SEC players."

On underrated players -
"When we evaluate a guy we look at his academics, his athletic ability and his character. If he passes all of those criteria then we usually send in an offer. We aren't going to offer anyone that can't come in and help us win in the SEC. With that said, I think that everybody in our class is a player that could help us get to the next level."

On playing early -
"That is hard to say. Once they get to campus it is about how much they can absorb mentally. The mental phase of the game is going to be a lot different than high school. How much can they absorb and take in? Number two is can they adjust to the game, because probably the biggest difference from high school to college is the speed of the game. It is hard to say, I don't know if it is one player. I know that several from this class are going to have to play on special teams and we think that they can play on special teams. Some will get some playing time at there repsective positions as well.

On if he thinks they won the recruiting battle in Kentucky -
"I do. I think we signed what the recruiting services would say are the number one and number two players in the state; Miles Simpson from Simon Kenton High School south of Cincinnati and Tim Patterson out of Central High School in Louisville, KY. By the rating services, those were the best players in the state and we got both of them."
