SouthernPigskin.com Recruiting Analyst Luke Stampini provides an update on south Florida wide receiver Chris Dunkley.
Star wide receiver Chris Dunkley got a glimpse of how Pahokee runs their football program during spring ball before an injury cut his practice time short. Now the 6-foot, 170-pound transfer from Royal Palm is getting into the swing of things with his Blue Devil teammates as fall practice started Monday.
“We did a lot of running, a lot of running, just getting everybody back in shape,” said Dunkley. “We are doing some 7-on-7 and 1-on-1’s and just getting everybody back in the mode of things.”
One question for the Blue Devils this off-season has been will Florida State commit De’Joshua Johnson continue to play quarterback or would they find a way to keep him at his natural position, wide receiver.
“He’s definitely going to see some time at receiver,” explained Dunkley. “From what I see, probably just the real big games he probably will be at quarterback and then I think they are looking to give “Tebow” (2011 Emanuel Perez) a chance. In big games, Muck Bowl, State, playoffs, Dwyer when we need to be hitting on all cylinders I think they will have Josh at quarterback.”
Dunkley has never taken part in a Muck Bowl being his first year at Pahokee, but he did watch last season’s clash from the stands.
“It was very intense. No matter how good the team is more than the other, it’s the type of game that everybody is going to play to the best of their ability. That’s the type of game it is. There was a lot of people there, a lot of fans, and it’s a lot of pressure. I’m ready for it.”
The biggest rivalry in the state is always exciting, and Dunkley talked how he feels about playing in it, instead of watching it.
“I feel like this Muck Bowl is going to be like a college atmosphere, it’s a huge game, two good teams going against each other, a lot of talent on the field together. I just can’t wait to play and it’s something I look forward to. Like you said it’s my first year playing in it, so I can’t say I know what to expect from last year, because I don’t.”
Getting to his recruiting, Dunkley says he has no official visits dates set just yet this coming fall.
“I’ve written some dates down, but I really haven’t contacted schools. That’s something I need to do as a matter of fact. I just have dates written down, but it’s not set in stone yet.”
After an impressive showing at Florida’s Friday Night Lights, the commitment of Delray Beach Atlantic wide receiver to Ohio State, many feel Dunkley is a sure fire bet to join the Florida Gators eventually.
“Florida program is a top notch program, I love Florida. They are up there with Southern Cal, I love them, and you know all those great programs. I like Florida a lot. A lot of people think I’m a silent commit, I’m not. As I’ve said Florida is my leader, but at the same time I’m just not ready pull the trigger on anybody right now. How I see it any school pressuring me to pull the trigger, I’m taking them out of my list.”
So the waiting game will continue for fans hoping Dunkley announces his decision soon.

We at SoFLAFootball.com pride ourselves on seeing each and every one of the top prospects in person, if not during the fall in a game from the sidelines, at a camp, combine, or 7-on-7 event. Unlike other sites we do not base our evaluations solely on film or highlights. We want to feel the speed of the game, verify the caliber of talent a prospect if facing, and measure up prospects by being right next to them.
