Recruiting Rankings

1. Florida - Some think the Gators have signed the best recruiting class we have seen in a few years. End Ronald Powell, tackle Sharrif Floyd, safety Matt Elam, tackle Dominique Easley and offensive lineman Chaz Green headline a class simply loaded with future stars. The Gators flexed their muscle nationally, signing Easley from New York, Floyd from Pennsylvannia and Powell from California. Florida also added recruits from Alabama, Connecticut, Georgia and Maryland.

Offensive Headliner: Chaz Green, OL
Defensive Headliner: Ronald Powell, DE
Sleeper: Michael McFarland, TE

2. Auburn - Perhaps the biggest surprise of the recruiting season, the Tigers finished with a consensus top five class nationally. Offensive tackle Shon Coleman, running back Michael Dyer and end Corey Lemonier are play-now studs. Quarterback Cameron Newton, from Texas, is one of the most physically impressive signal callers we have seen in years. Gene Chizik and his staff pulled top recruits from SEC West rival states Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi.

Offensive Headliner: Cameron Newton, QB
Defensive Headliner: Corey Lemonier, DE
Sleeper: Jessel Curry, LB

3. Alabama - The Crimson Tide capitalized on their national championship by signing 26 recruits on Wednesday. Defensive back DeMarcus Milliner has NFL measurables now and appears ready to make a major impact in year one. He, John Fulton and Dequan Menzie project very highly in the defensive backfield. Quarterback Phillip Sims was ranked by many as the top prep player in the state of Virginia. With him come two nice downfield options in DeAndrew White and Keiwone Malone.

Offensive Headliner: Phillip Sims, QB
Defensive Headliner: DeMarcus Milliner, DB
Sleeper: Brandon Ivory, DT

4. LSU - Getting end J.R. Ferguson on National Signing Day was a big coup for the Tigers in this defensive-end heavy class. Ferguson, Jordan Allen, J.C. Copeland and Justin Maclin are all blue-chip edge rushers. You have to see be excited about the versatility of athletes Spencer Ware, Jarrett Fobbs, Tharold Simon and Ronnie Vinson. Les Miles pulled Ware away from Ohio State and Michigan.

Offensive Headliner: Spencer Ware, ATH
Defensive Headliner: J.R. Ferguson, DE
Sleeper: Alfred Blue, RB

5. Florida State - Jimbo Fisher did an excellent job with his first recruiting class at Florida State. The Seminoles reeled in yet another top ten class, a haul led by numerous stars on the defensive side of the football. Linebackers Christian Jones and Jeff Luc and cornerback Lamarcus Joyner form as good of a defensive trio as you will find in any class this year. Signing Day snag Christian Green may project at wide receiver. Fisher did very well in-state.

Offensive Headliner: Christian Green, ATH
Defensive Headliner: Lamarcus Joyner, CB
Sleeper: Dan Foose, OL

6. Tennessee - How about the job Derek Dooley did, pulling together a great class on short notice as the replacement to Lane Kiffin in Knoxville? His biggest get was stealing away Calhoun, Georgia wide receiver Da'Rick Rogers from the home-state Bulldogs at the last minue. He is the top player in the Peach State. Fans are excited about 6'6'' California product, quarterback Tyler Bray. End Corey Miller from South Carolina power Byrnes is another huge out-of-state snag.

Offensive Headliner: Da'Rick Rogers, WR
Defensive Headliner: Corey Miller, DE
Sleeper: John Propst, LB

7. Georgia - The Bulldogs are bringing in immediate defensive help in defensive backs Jakar Hamilton and Alec Ogletree and end T.J. Stripling. At 6'3'', 210, Ogletree is a force at safety. Stripling, along with fellow ends Jalen Fields and Dexter Morant should bolster the Georgia pass rush. Quarterback Hutson Mason set the state of Georgia single-season passing record as a senior.

Offensive Headliner: Brent Benedict, OT
Defensive Headliner: Alec Ogletree, S
Sleeper: Hutson Mason, QB

8. Clemson - The Tigers signed two elite defensive tackles in 285-pound John Watson, an early enrollee, and 6'5'' Tavaris Barners. Clemson fans will love 6'4'' wide receiver Martavis Bryant, a two-year commitment to the Tigers and the first recruit to fax in his letter of intent on National Signing Day. Athlete DeAndre Hopkins is an exciting prospect.

Offensive Headliner: Martavis Bryant, WR
Defensive Headliner: John Watson, DT
Sleeper: Kalon Davis, OL

9. Ole Miss - A pair of early enrollees, end Wayne Dorsey and defensive back Damien Jackson, are poised for big years in 2010. Dorsey is a 6'8'', 255-pound monster off the edge. Jackson has a lot of versatility at 6'3'' with 4.48 speed. Houston Nutt dipped down to Miami to get 6'6'', 230 pound jumbo athlete Delvin Jones. Wide receiver Vincent Sanders has big potential.

Offensive Headliner: Vincent Sanders, WR
Defensive Headliner: Wayne Dorsey, DE
Sleeper: Quadarias Mireles, WR

10. Miami - The running game should be solid for years to come with tailback Eduardo Clements and center Brandon Linder staying in South Florida. Clements is one of the top runners in the southeast. He and Georgia-native Storm Johnson form a very nice one-two punch in the backfield. A pair of cornerbacks, Kacy Rodgers and Keion Payne, have big-time potential.

Offensive Headliner: Brandon Linder, C
Defensive Headliner: Kacy Rodgers, CB
Sleeper: Kelvin Cain, LB

Once again VT is unranked in recruiting, but will be ranked in the top 5 of the Southern Pigskin top 10.  When will the analysts ever learn that VTs coaching staff evaluates talent waaaaaaaaaay better than any recruiting website.  Stars mean squat.
