*Where has that Clemson team been? With their 38-3 win over Wake Forest, the Tigers showcased the explosiveness, athleticism and speed many had been talking about all off-season. This was the best football game Clemson has played in years and puts them in the drivers’ seat in the ACC Atlantic Division. What a statement win for the Tigers, who showed what they are capable of when they play a complete football game early Saturday afternoon.

*What more can you say about C.J. Spiller that hasn’t already been said? One of the best playmakers in ACC history. He totaled 106 yards rushing and two touchdowns on just nine carries. Even with limited touches, Spiller can change the entire course of a football game. This was his second 100-yard rushing effort in his last three games.

*Jim Grobe spent the last few days talking to the media about the athleticism Clemson had on defense and his words proved to be quite prophetic. The Tigers held Wake Forest to just 178 total yards and forced senior quarterback Riley Skinner into one of the worst games of his career. The front four was a fixture in the Demon Deacon offensive backfield and the defensive secondary suffocated the Wake Forest receivers all afternoon long. After a subpar performance in a loss to Maryland, this defense played like it had something to prove.

*Give freshman quarterback Kyle Parker a lot of credit for a very efficient afternoon under center. He went all “Riley Skinner” on Wake Forest, managing the game well and making good decisions en route to a big win. His final numbers were 10 of 18 passing for 132 yards, one touchdown and zero interceptions. He added a rushing touchdown. Parker played with great poise and consistency in the big Clemson victory.

*If you’re Wake Forest, you have to forget this performance and move on. The Demon Deacons were overmatched physically and emotionally and couldn’t ever get over the hump. It was an atypical performance against Clemson: two interceptions, six penalties and just 3 of 17 on third downs. It was just one of those days and Wake Forest was beaten by a better, hungrier football team.
