SouthernPigskin.com Staff Writer J.T. Bennett reflects on Georgia Tech's 28-23 win over Virginia Tech.
*The triple option works people, and every naysayer should now be quiet. The Yellow Jacket offense destroyed Florida State's defense last week and tonight they controlled the game perfectly. The offense that could never work in major college football held the ball for two/thirds of the game and rushed for over 300 yards. After the seventh week of college football Georgia Tech leads the ACC in total offense.
*Give Josh Nesbitt some credit. He has been the workhorse of his team this year. He is carrying the ball more and more each week which is taking pressure off of the other backs. Nesbitt also scored three touchdowns including the game sealing score with 1:45 left in the fourth quarter. Nesbitt may have only thrown one pass but it was big one, a 51 yard completion to Demaryius Thomas. Jonathon Dwyer pounded the middle as usual and was only tackled for a loss on one play.
*Georgia Tech's defense played better this week and seemed to fix some of there problems. The Yellow Jackets forced two interceptions from Tyrod Taylor and did enough to get the W and that is all that matters.
*Virginia Tech played great on offense. In the second half they pretty much scored whenever they had the ball. Unfortunately the Hokie defense couldn't get Georgia Tech's offense off of the field. Tyrod Taylor, Ryan Williams, and Dyrell Roberts all played great. Roberts had two big time returns and was Taylor's go to receiver the whole game. Williams finished with yet another 100 yard performance.
*Bud Foster had his work cut out for him in this game and he did a great job in the first half. But Georgia Tech adjusted at half time and came out firing on all cylinders.
*The ACC Coastal division is still wide open. Georgia Tech, Miami, Virginia Tech, and even Virginia still have a chance to go to Tampa. Paul Johnson on the ACC Coastal race - "I mean, there are still games left to be played, so you can't worry about it. All we can focus on is Virginia. We know we already have a loss and I don't think you can win our side (Coastal Division) with two. One loss is going to win it. What we did tonight was stay alive and put everyone else back in it.
