Tennessee head coach Lane Kiffin is following Palm Beach Gardens offensive linemen Avery Young.
At 6-foot-5, 260-pounds and only a sophomore, Palm Beach Gardens offensive lineman Avery Young is going to garner some attention early. The 2012 Gator is already hearing from schools like Nebraska, Michigan, Tennessee, and N.C. State. Letters from college programs are nice for any sophomore, but when a SEC head coach stops by your school for an update personally on your status is impressive.
That is exactly what happened earlier this week when Tennessee head coach Lane Kiffin stopped Gardens to get an early leg up on the sophomore.
“It feels pretty good to be known already, but at the same time I don’t really let that get to me,” said Young. “You can’t get too carried away with it like my dad said I got two more years here. It will be even better later on down the line like my senior year.”
The good thing for Young, the circus that is the recruiting process, is old hat for his family. Older brother Willie Young Jr. went through it several years ago before finding a home at N.C. State. Avery keeps in touch with Willie Jr. on a daily basis, and the advice is already coming from the older sibling.
“He’s just telling me to just stay focused on what I’m doing and don’t give up on what I’m doing, just keep moving forward. There will be a lot of walls in the way, but just keep working and climbing to get ahead. He makes sure I’m aware of the things to come.”
Staying focus on improving is something Avery is still doing. While he feels his strength and mobility are his positives, Avery knows there is room for improvement.
“Basically just staying low, that’s like my main focus, staying low and getting stronger.”
Palm Beach Gardens travels to Seminole Ridge tonight in what will be another shot for Avery to get his name out even more.

We at SoFLAFootball.com pride ourselves on seeing each and every one of the top prospects in person, if not during the fall in a game from the sidelines, at a camp, combine, or 7-on-7 event. Unlike other sites we do not base our evaluations solely on film or highlights. We want to feel the speed of the game, verify the caliber of talent a prospect if facing, and measure up prospects by being right next to them.
