SouthernPigskin.com Recruiting Analyst Luke Stampini updates the offer list for 2011 DB Curt Maggitt.

Curt Maggitt’s most important weapon on the football field is his speed and quickness off the edge. The 2011 Dwyer defensive end prospect blasts off the line of scrimmage like a sprinter firing out of the starting blocks. That burst you see from the 6-foot-3, 200-pounder is big reason offers started filing in September 1, the first day 2011 prospects could receive written offers.

“I got Florida, Tennessee, FIU, and Georgia, a new one,” said Maggitt of his early written offers.

Maggitt has heard from many schools over the summer, but the offer from the Bulldogs caught Maggitt off-guard a bit as he has only talked to coaches from Georgia once before, very briefly.

“It’s a great school, great history,” said Maggitt of Georgia. “It’s not too far from home I would say.”

The day proved to be a thrilling one for Maggitt, but the recruiting process will not consume him.

“It was exciting to get them,” explained Maggitt. “I’ve been working hard for a while, and it shows the hard work paid off. I can’t lose my focus on play, but it’s exciting.”

As the college season kicks off this weekend as well, Maggitt plans to make a few unofficial visits to check out some games.

“Me, Nick (O’Leary), Coby (Brissett), Matt (Elam), and a couple other players on the team are going to see Ohio State verse USC,” said Maggitt. “I’ll probably check out Miami and Oklahoma on the 3rd (of October). Miami and Florida, I’ll probably check out a couple of their games.”

The season for the Panthers gets underway this Friday. Dwyer opens the season with an extremely tough test, the Glades Central Raiders.

“We haven’t played since the spring since we didn’t have a Kickoff Classic, so everybody is eager to play. Everyone is working hard practicing. Practices have been more intense this year.”

Last season the game between the two teams was played in a constant downpour, and the field featured many areas with standing water.

“I was the holder (on field goals) last year and I dropped some snaps that could have won the game,” said Maggitt. “I think we just want to prove the game shouldn’t go to four overtimes and that we are a much better team than that.”

We at SoFLAFootball.com pride ourselves on seeing each and every one of the top prospects in person, if not during the fall in a game from the sidelines, at a camp, combine, or 7-on-7 event. Unlike other sites we do not base our evaluations solely on film or highlights. We want to feel the speed of the game, verify the caliber of talent a prospect if facing, and measure up prospects by being right next to them.
