SEC Week Ten Review

SouthernPigskin.com SEC Writer Jeremy Hillman reviews week ten in the SEC.

The tenth week of the college football season has come and gone, and it brought more clarity to the SEC season. The SEC Championship is set (Alabama vs Florida) and bowl positions are getting clearer. Here is my review of the week 10 action:

SEC Coach of The Week: Bobby Petrino, Head Coach Arkansas (In a much needed win, Petrino and the Razorbacks had a stellar offensive game plan and rolled over a good South Carolina defense 33-16)

SEC Offensive Player Of The Week: Mark Ingram, RB Alabama (Ingram racked up 144 rushing yards against LSU, and added 5 receptions for another 30 yards in the big win)

SEC Defensive Player Of The Week: Eric Berry, S Tennessee (Berry does it all, against Memphis on Saturday he had 5 tackles, an interception, a fumble recovery, a QB hurry and a pass deflection)

Three UP:
1. Alabama (the Crimson Tide stayed undefeated and clinched a spot in the SEC Championship game, with a win over #9 LSU)
2. Florida (the Gators remained undefeated and will match up with Alabama in the SEC Title game, after beating Vanderbilt)
3. Ryan Mallett (the sophomore QB solidified himself as the probable “top QB” in the SEC going into next season. He racked up another 300+ yards passing game, in a win versus South Carolina)

Three DOWN:
1. South Carolina (after a promising start, the Gamecocks have fallen to a disappointing 3-4 in the SEC. The offense is just not productive and the defense seems to be sliding a bit as the season wears on)
2. Charles Scott RB LSU (in the preseason, Scott was listed by most as the top back in the SEC…as of right now he isn’t even in the top 7. After gaining 83 yards against Alabama, he still only has one game over 100 yards, and that was versus Tulane)
3. Vanderbilt Offense (It has gone from bad, to just plain ugly. The Commodores look lost on offense and are struggling to get first downs, much less touchdowns. Vanderbilt is dead last in the SEC at a paltry 16 points per game scored)

Top 5 Players in The SEC – Updated after Week 10:
1. Tim Tebow QB Florida (Tebow threw for over 200 yards, ran for 27 yards and added two touchdowns, in the win over Vanderbilt. He has lead the Gators to an undefeated record with his 20 total touchdowns…11 passing, 9 rushing)
2. Mark Ingram RB Alabama (After 144 yards rushing against LSU, Ingram now has 1,148 rushing yards and 8 rushing touchdowns on the season…good for 3rd best in the nation for yards on the ground. Not to mention his 24 receptions for over 200 yards and 3 additional TDs)
3. Ryan Mallett QB Arkansas (Mallett continues to put up big stats. He now has 2,480 passing yards and 18 passing touchdowns on the season, leading the SEC in both categories)
4. Ben Tate RB Auburn (Tate continued his big season with 2 touchdown runs versus Furman, giving him 8 for the year. He is now 4th in the nation in rushing yards with 1,142)
5. Javier Arenas S Alabama (Arenas is making a huge impact on the Tide’s undefeated season. He has an impressive 687 punt/kick return yardage, 51 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, 4 sacks, a forced fumble and an interception this season)
