Week Nine SEC Preview

Jeremy Hillman

SouthernPigskin.com SEC Writer Jeremy Hillman previews week nine in the SEC.

Week 9 of college football is approaching; will it be trick or treat on Halloween? Can Georgia give Florida a challenge? Will South Carolina hold off the improving Tennessee Vols? Can Auburn turn things back around against Ole Miss at home? Here are my thoughts on those games, and more, in this week’s SEC game previews:

Jeremy Hillman’s Results:

Last Week Straight up: 5-1 (83%)
Last Week Against The Spread: 3-3 (50%)

Overall Season Straight Up: 51-9 (85%)
Overall Season Against The Spread: 35-20 (64%)

WEEK EIGHT

DO NOT MISS THESE GAMES:
Florida Vs Georgia
(Saturday, October 31st – 3:30 CBS)
Predicted Game MVP: Florida LB Brandon Spikes
Bottom Line: The Bulldogs will come out fired up and hang with Florida early. Georgia (and Mark Richt) needs this win more than Florida. They just won’t be able to pull it off. The Florida defense will make another big play to pull away, and Tim Tebow and the Gator offense will do enough to stay unbeaten.
Predicted Score: Florida 31 Georgia 17 (line: Florida -16)

Ole Miss at Auburn
(Saturday, October 31st – 12:20 SEC Network)
Predicted Game MVP: Ole Miss DL Greg Hardy
Bottom Line: Ole Miss has turned things around a bit, after a disappointing 3-2 start to the season. Auburn is the opposite, they are slipping after a surprising 5-0 start to the season. Look for this trend to continue. The Rebel defense will stop Auburn’s offense from getting back on track, and Dexter McCluster will make a big play on offense to put the game away.
Predicted Score: Ole Miss 28 Auburn 19 (line: Ole Miss -4)

South Carolina at Tennessee
(Saturday, October 31st – 7:45 ESPN)
Predicted Game MVP: Tennessee S Eric Berry
Bottom Line: Two SEC programs battling for bowl position, on Halloween night, at 100,000+ seat Neyland Stadium. This one should be fun. Tennessee’s defense will be the difference, as Eric Berry and the Vol secondary will disrupt the Gamecock offense. UT will grab a quality home win in this one.
Predicted Score: Tennessee 24 South Carolina 20 (line: Tennessee -5)

COULD BE FUN TO WATCH:
Mississippi State at Kentucky
(Saturday, October 31st – 7:00 FSN)
Predicted Game MVP: Kentucky WR Randall Cobb
Bottom Line: Kentucky is on its way to another post season game this season, and Dan Mullen has the Bulldogs playing improved football. This could turn out to be a heck of a ballgame. In the end, look for stud playmaker Randall Cobb to make the big play that seals the win for the Wildcats.
Predicted Score: Kentucky 26 Mississippi State 17 (line: Kentucky -3)

Georgia Tech at Vanderbilt
(Saturday, October 31st – 7:30 ESPN360 )
Predicted Game MVP: Georgia Tech QB Josh Nesbitt
Bottom Line: It will take Tech a quarter or two to get their offense going against the Commodore defense. However, Vanderbilt will struggle on offense again this week, and the Yellow Jackets will eventually roll to a comfortable win on the road.
Predicted Score: Georgia Tech 27 Vanderbilt 10 (line: Georgia Tech -11.5)

WATCH AT YOUR OWN RISK:
Tulane at LSU
(Saturday, October 31st – 8:00 ESPN GamePlan)
Predicted Game MVP: LSU WR Brandon LaFell
Bottom Line: This one could get ugly. The Green Wave defense will give up big chunks of yards on the ground and in the air, and the LSU defense keep Tulane’s offense in check all night. Lopsided win for the Tigers.
Predicted Score: LSU 40 Tulane 6 (line: LSU -36 )

Eastern Michigan at Arkansas
(Saturday, October 31st – 7:00 ESPNU)
Predicted Game MVP: Arkansas QB Ryan Mallett
Bottom Line: This is perfect for Halloween…a scary blood bath. Arkansas will score at will, and rack up over 600 yards of offense. This will be an easy win for the Hogs.
Predicted Score: Arkansas 52 Eastern Michigan 16 (line: Arkansas -38)
