Week 12 SEC Preview

Jeremy Hillman
SouthernPigskin.com SEC Writer

SouthernPigskin.com SEC Writer Jeremy Hillman previews week twelve in the SEC.

With just two weeks left in the regular season, week 12 is upon us. While the SEC title game is already set, bowl game positioning, national rankings and player awards are still all at stake. Will Ole Miss find a way to trip up LSU? Can Kentucky challenge Georgia? Here are my thoughts on those games and more in my week 12 preview:

Jeremy Hillman’s Results:

Last Week Straight up: 5-2 (71%)
Last Week Against The Spread: 4-3 (66%)

Overall Season Straight Up: 69-13 (84%)
Overall Season Against The Spread: 45-24 (65%)

WEEK TWELVE

DO NOT MISS THESE GAMES:

LSU at Ole Miss
(Saturday, November 21st, 2009 – 3:30 CBS )
Predicted Game MVP: Ole Miss WR Dexter McCluster
Bottom Line: This is a season defining game for LSU, a win will send the Tigers to a 9-2 record (with their only losses being to top-ranked Bama and Florida). A loss for the Tigers will mean disappointment and unrest in Baton Rouge. A win for Ole Miss could jump the Rebels over LSU for a spot in the CapOne Bowl...and the Rebels will do it. Javon Snead is playing better than he did early in the season and big time playmaker Dexter McCluster will have at least two big plays in this game. The home team wins this one, in a nail bitter.
Predicted Score: Ole Miss 26 LSU 24 (line: Ole Miss -3)

Kentucky at Georgia
(Saturday, November 21st, 2009 – 7:45 ESPN2)
Predicted Game MVP: Georgia LB Rennie Curran
Bottom Line: Both teams are 6-4, and both teams have been good at times and very bad at times. Kentucky’s running game, with Derrick Locke and Randall Cobb, will be solid…but the passing game, in the hands of Freshman Morgan Newton, will be slowed down by the Georgia defense. Georgia will have a defense score and escape with a close home win.
Predicted Score: Georgia 21 Kentucky 20 (line: Georgia -8)

COULD BE FUN TO WATCH:

Mississippi State at Arkansas
(Saturday, November 21st, 2009 12:21 SEC Network)
Predicted Game MVP: Arkansas QB Ryan Mallett
Bottom Line: State was blasted by Alabama last week and will come out with something to prove, and at 4 wins, still fighting for their bowl lives. However, Ryan Mallett and the Razorback passing game will be too much for the Bulldogs and the home team will pull away late in this one.
Predicted Score: Arkansas 34 Miss State 23 (line: Arkansas -10.5)

WATCH AT YOUR OWN RISK:

Vanderbilt at Tennessee
(Saturday, November 21st, 2009 – 12:00)
Predicted Game MVP: Tennessee S Eric Berry
Bottom Line: Tennessee hasn’t had the best week…a brutal loss to Ole Miss and off the field arrest have soiled what had been a promising season. However, they need just one win to get a bowl invite and start to get the train back on track. That win will come this week against a Vanderbilt team that has no offense and only two wins on the season.
predicted Score: Tennessee 29 Vanderbilt 9 (line: Tennessee -17)

CREAM PUFFS:

FIU at Florida
(Saturday, November 21st, 2009 -- 12:30)
Predicted Game MVP: Florida QB John Brantley
Bottom Line: The Gators will control the game, but FIU will get in a couple shots in the first half. But just a couple. Florida wins big at home, giving the backups a chance to see action in the second half.
Predicted Score: Florida 41 FIU 10 (line: Florida - 43)

Chattanooga at Alabama
(Saturday, November 21st, 2009 -- 12:21)
Predicted Game MVP: Alabama RB Trent Richardson
Bottom Line: Alabama is on a roll (pun intended) and they will cake walk over the outmatched Mocs. Look for backups to have a big day in Tuscaloosa, with freshman RB Trent Richardson being the star.
Predicted Score: Alabama 40 Chattanooga 6 (line: No Line)
