Going into the final weekend before National Signing Day a few members of the SouthernPigskin.com Real Tree Energy Drink All South Prep team remain uncommitted and have fans all over the country sitting on the edge of their seats. The winter storm hitting the southeast has hampered some of the members' plans to take last minute visits. With the dead period looming, this weekend will tell the tale as to where these blue bloods will eventually sign.
Arguably the nation’s best running back, Duncan, South Carolina’s Marcus Lattimore has narrowed his final two down to the home state Gamecocks of South Carolina and Auburn. With the decision looming, Lattimore has kept things close to his and his families' vest. He had stated Auburn might have a slight edge, however Shane Beamer and gang at South Carolina have issued a full court press over the past two weeks. Lattimore said that he plans to make his announcement at his church in front of 600 friends and family.
Knowing the pressure the young sensational running back is under, our hunch tells us it’s South Carolina. However this literally could come down to a signing day decision. Stay tuned.
Ultra talented Ivan McCartney’s recruiting journey has been well documented. This weekend "Sticks" is touring the home town campus of Miami and is without question getting the red carpet treatment. Perhaps a hint to his final destination came earlier this week when West Virginia added McCartney’s sidekick receiver Dante Chambers. Last year WVU inked super stud quarterback Geno Smith and Stedman Bailey. If McCartney picks the Mountaineers one of Florida’s top prep offenses will be lining up as Mountaineers and Sticks has indicated that the thought of reuniting with his teammates in the mountains appeals to him.
Some feel McCartney has been quietly committed to WVU for months and we agree. We feel strongly McCartney will sign and impact at WVU, soon.
Offensive linemen Damien Robinson from Olive Branch, Mississippi was scheduled to visit Tennessee this weekend but bad weather forced Robinson to cancel the trip. Instead the massive linemen is reportedly heading to Memphis to look around.
Robinson has the staff and fans at Mississippi State and Mississippi hoping and praying he decides to stay instate and we think that’s exactly where he ends up. Oklahoma offered up a great visit for the massive tackle, but he likes the idea of being close to home and having his family being able to watch him play. Robinson’s upside is NFL-like and he will be a huge get for either Ole Miss and Mississippi State. This one is going to be a signing day decision with perhaps Mississippi State having the edge entering the weekend.
Five star super blue chip edge rusher Corey Lemonier from Hialeah, Fl enters the weekend with two favorites, Florida State and Auburn. Both staff’s are pulling out all of the stops. A difference maker on the field, Lemonier has an NFL body now and with a year in a structured strength and conditioning program he’ll be a man among boys at the next level. Can you say three and done? If not and you’re an FSU or Auburn fan get ready to in Lemonier's case.
Word is he’s loves the coaches at Auburn and the of direction of new FSU coach Jimbo Fisher’s program. This is another one that will be decided on NSD and it could go either way. If you’re a betting person the odds favor Florida State simply because of him being a Floridian.
Christian Jones from Lake Howell, Florida has been coveted by teams from all over the country. As one of the top linebackers in the nation he has his pick. His final four include FSU, UF, Notre Dame and Oklahoma. There is a calm confidence in Tallahassee that the Seminoles will close the deal. However all four programs have turned on the charm. Jones is headed to Tallahassee this weekend for an official visit and that could be a sign of things to come on Wednesday. Expect a signing day decision and don’t be surprised to see him in Jimbo Fisher’s defense next fall.
Super quick and athletic Darius Millines from Delray Beach, Florida put on a show in his Florida state championship game showing the country what many in the south already new. That being he’s an impact player that can play several different positions. An early commitment to WVU, after Doc Holiday accepted the Marshall job Millines reportedly opened up his recruiting and visited Marshall and last week toured Illinois. Millines final three are WVU, Marshall and Illinois but he’ll choose between Marshall and WVU. This one will be close with the friendship he’s developed with Holiday verses playing in a BCS conference at WVU. We all agree this one is too close to call and expect a signing day decision.
Four star super quick Nickell Robey is at Southern Cal this weekend. While Robey was flying to USC, his father notified Georgia’s Mark Richt that Robey will not be signing with the Bulldogs. Monte and Lane Kiffin from USC and Bill Stewart, Dave Johnson and Steve Dunlap from WVU have made several trips to Frostproof over the past week. With a mid week visit to USF this past week, it appears the Bulls are out of it and Robey has not met the new Tennessee staff so obviously they aren’t in the mix any longer.
For Robey it is a Southern California verses West Virginia battle. Robey will have a press conference at Frostproof on Wednesday with all the bells and whistles including two hats on the table. Word is he doesn’t have a WVU hat, take that for what it’s worth. This one is too close to call.
Lanky and long Christian Green from Tampa Catholic enters the final weekend with FSU, UF and Georgia on his mind. Green is scheduled to make his announcement on ESPN from the school and you can bet there will be lots of coaches from all three schools tuned in. Green was rumored to be an FSU lean earlier this week. Then the day later it was rumored to be a Gator lean. Meanwhile Mark Richt had a great visit with the soft spoken Green. Like many high profile recruits at this stage we believe Green hasn't made his mind up yet. Logic says he stays in state but Christian and his father Hiram Green have developed a close relationship with the Richt family. This one is way, way to close to call and do not discount Georgia.
