Version 5.0 sees expansion from a Top 80 to a Top 100 with 21 new names.

Three months has passed since the last version of the 2019 South Georgia Player Rankings. Since that time the NCAA spring evaluation period took place with offers being tossed out like confetti. We are knee-deep in the football camp circuit where players strive to gain the attention of college recruiters.

Version 5.0 sees expansion from a Top 80 to a Top 100 with 21 new names, each new name is bolded and designated with the acronym – NR. Last February 51 players from South Georgia in the class of 2018 inked scholarships with FBS schools, currently there are over 60 players in the class of 2019 with at least one FBS offer.

There are currently 13 players in the Top 100 that have publicly announced their college intentions, though nothing is final till the ink dries. Six of the committed athletes are from the Coastal Region of Georgia.

Last week Savannah (Ga.) Savannah Christian center Dylan McMahon surprised a lot of people when he made his destination known with a commitment to North Carolina State. McMahon is the #4-ranked prospect in South Georgia.

Also making a commitment to the Wolfpack was Jakeen “Hitstick” Harris of Savannah (Ga.) Benedictine who comes in at #10. Last season Harris led the Cadets in tackles with 103 stops while adding five INT’s.

Hinesville (Ga.) Bradwell Institute running back Kevin Harris recently chose to play his college ball in Columbia, South Carolina. This bruising running back chose the Gamecocks soon after camping there earlier this month. He comes in at #19.

Harris was not the lone player to choose the SEC; Auburn picked up from St. Simons Island (Ga.) Frederica Academy cornerback Jaylin Simpson. The #26 player chose the Tigers over 20 other schools.

Savannah (Ga.) Calvary Day hybrid DE/OLB Sayyid Stevens chose the Duke Blue Devils over 22 other suitors. The #28-ranked prospect posted a defensive hat trick last season leading the Cavaliers in tackles, TFL’s and sacks.

Rounding out the Savannah Area commits is Aaron Bedgood of Richmond Hill (Ga.) who chose to play at Coastal Carolina. The multifaceted back has put up over 1,000 all-purpose yards in each of his three varsity seasons. Bedgood comes in at #42.

The highest new entry belongs to 6-foot-7, 300-pound Dublin (Ga.) Trinity Christian offensive lineman Caelan Williams at #41.Williams currently holds offers from East Carolina, Eastern Kentucky, Georgia Southern, Southeast Missouri State , UMass and Vanderbilt.

Coming in at #44 is interior offensive line prospect Javonte McGriff of Thomasville (Ga.). Last year he helped pave the way for the Bulldogs as they finished the season (12-1). McGriff currently holds offers from Charleston Southern, Florida Atlantic, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Kennesaw State, Mercer, MTSU, North Alabama, Ohio, South Alabama, Troy and Tulane.

Right on his heels at #45 is two-sport star Roman Harrison of Bainbridge (Ga.). Harrison recorded 50 tackles, 11 TFL’s and 8.5 sacks in just nine games; he also placed fourth in the Discus at the GHSA-AAAAA Track Championships. Harrison has garnered offers from Florida Atlantic, Georgia Tech, Georgia Southern, Michigan State and Tennessee.

Making his entry at #49 is linebacker Jamari Hill of Valdosta (Ga.) Lowndes. Hill paced the Viking defense with 47 tackles, eight TFL’s and two sacks. He currently possesses verbal offers from Charlotte, Liberty, Marshall, Southeast Missouri State and Tulane.

Finishing off the Top Five new entries is massive interior run stopper Antwann Fann of Perry (Ga.) at #56. The 6-foot-3, 320-pound behemoth fits perfectly in the center of a 3-4 defensive front. His lone  offer at this time is Florida Atlantic.

The next 2019 Rankings update will take place sometime in September. Also be on the lookout for Version 1.0 of the 2021 South Georgia Rankings in the same time frame.
