Looking at the top 38 prospects in south Georgia or the Class of 2020.

It’s been over four months since the original version of the 2020 South Georgia Player Rankings ran, so one would expect major changes and additions since the inaugural version. And that is the case as 18 new names have been added since the first edition.

The Player Rankings now boast 38 players that hail south of the gnat-line. There has also been some movement in the upper echelon of the rankings. Each new named is bolded and designated with the acronym NR in the Last Ranking column.

Fort Valley (Ga.) Peach County linebacker Sergio Allen and Savannah (Ga.) Benedictine receiver Rico Powers, Jr. hold firmly onto the top two spots. Allen currently holds offers from Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Michigan, Penn State, South Carolina and Vanderbilt, while Powers has picked up offers from Arkansas, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee and Western Kentucky.

Jumping up two spots to #3 is outside linebacker Zykeivous Walker of Ellaville (Ga.) Schley County. Walker had no scholarship offers when the first version ran; he has since picked up verbal tenders from Georgia and South Carolina.

Moving up five spots to #4 is Nashville (Ga.) Berrien athlete Ja’Marquis Johnson. Like Walker, Johnson previously had no offers when Version 1.0 ran but has since picked up scholarship offers from Florida State and Southern Miss.

Also new to the Top 5 is Moultrie (Ga.) Colquitt County running back Daijun Edwards; who amazingly already has two varsity seasons under his belt. Over the past two seasons he has carried the ball 323 times for 1,925 yards and 27 touchdowns while catching 35 passes for 330 yards. His offer list currently reads as Auburn, Georgia, Penn State and Tennessee.

Fellow Packer Nyquann Washington is the highest new entry at #13. The sophomore corner led Moultrie (Ga.) Colquitt County with five interceptions; he also added 32 tackles and three TFL’s.

The next highest new entry at #15 is Blackshear (Ga.) Pierce County offensive lineman Avery Jernigan. He was a standout performer at the annual ESPFC Camp a few weeks back. Jernigan currently has an offer from the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Another corner from Region 1-AAAAAAA makes his entry into the South Georgia Rankings at #17. Last season Valdosta (Ga.) Lowndes standout Josh Brown recorded 26 tackles and one INT. His cover skills have attracted an offer from Michigan.

There are five new entries from the ESPN Coastal Region. They are Byron Bacon at #22, Rocko Griffin at #23, Sam Brown at #25, De’Leon Madria at #35 and Brock Pavo at #36.

Both Bacon and Griffin were positional MVPs at the ESPFC Camp held earlier this month at Kingsland (Ga.) Camden County. Bacon of Brunswick (Ga.) Glynn Academy earned DB MVP honors and Griffin of Savannah (Ga.) Calvary Day walked away a double award recipient. Not only did he earn RB MVP, but he also recorded the fastest 40-time at a 4.46.

Brown of Bloomingdale (Ga.) New Hampstead is a long corner with incredible speed. As a freshman he had verified times of 11.27 in the 100-meters and 23.03 in the 200-meters. He also showed serious explosion with a 22-foot-1 long jump.

The final two new entries from the Coastal Region come from the same county. Madria is a lean and athletic offensive lineman from Hinesville (Ga.) Bradwell Institute while Brock Pavo of Hinesville (Ga.) Liberty County projects as a potential center in college.

The next version of the 2020 South Georgia Rankings will run sometime after the spring evaluation period. In the meantime we are continually looking for potential FBS level players to add to this list.
