Benedictine offensive lineman Gage Blackston out of Savannah, Georgia signed with Appalachian State University on Wednesday morning. Blackston will join a program at Appalachian State that has seen great success since moving to FBS from the FCS ranks in 2014, including going 10-3 last season and capping it off with a 31-28 win over Toledo in the Camellia Bowl.
At 6’5”, 267 pounds, Blackston is a solid player who will help shore up the Mountaineers offensive line. After receiving the offer from Appalachian State, Blackston committed to the Mountaineers 3 days before National Signing Day so there was no drama when it came down to signing.
Moving forward, Blackston heads to Boone with excitement and a work ethic that will get him on the field fast.
“I visited App. State earlier in the school year and fell in love with the campus, really liked the coaches and they know how to win” said Blackston on the Southern Pigskin Radio Network. “It has great campus life, good education and a team that dedicated to winning on the football” explained Blackston when asked what the major factors were in his decision to attend Appalachian State University.
Blackston has said that he will work tirelessly to earn his playing time. They (Appalachian State) are getting a player that will work hard and do his best to get on the field as early as possible.”
Blackston chose Appalachian State but held other offers from Air Force Academy and Georgia Southern.
