Josh Sweat Picks Florida State

Josh Sweat has drawn comparisons to the most recent No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft, Jadeveon Clowney.

Consensus five-star prospects Josh Sweat, who was at one point considered to be the top high school prospect in the nation for the class of 2015, made his verbal commitment to Jimbo Fisher and the Florida State Seminoles Wednesday morning at his school in Virginia.

Many recruiting services considered Sweat to be the top high school player in the country prior to him suffering a gruesome knee injury in September. Though he didn’t even play three complete games for his Oscar Smith High School squad, Sweat finished his senior campaign with 25 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and eight sacks, while adding four touchdowns on offense.

Florida State and Virginia Tech were thought to be Sweat’s favorites heading into his decision on Wednesday morning, but Georgia, Ohio State and Oregon were also listed as finalists.

Sweat has drawn comparisons to the most recent No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft, Jadeveon Clowney. At six-foot-five and 239 pounds, Sweat possesses a rare combination of speed, strength and overall athleticism generally not found in a high school defensive end.

Although he is still in the midst of his rehabilitation from his knee injury, Sweat will enroll in Tallahassee in January.

As a new Florida State commit, Sweat is joining a Seminoles recruiting class which is ranked as a consensus top five unit. Depending on how things finish up, the Seminoles also might be in the running to land the nation’s top overall class for the class of 2015.
