I had a chance to discuss the recruiting process with Stetson and here’s what he had to say.

A lot of teams might miss out on a superb young talent, Stetson Bennett, because he’s considered undersized for the position. Listed at 6’0”, 175 pounds, Bennett does fall just outside of the ideal frame for a prototypical quarterback. At a glance, Bennett seems rather unassuming, relative to most people’s ideals of what a quarterback should look like. However, the numbers tell a different story.

Last season, as a junior, Bennett completed over 63% of his passes for 23 touchdowns and just shy of 3,000 yards. He did throw 11 interceptions, but he will look to improve in that aspect during the offseason, into his senior year. He’s also capable of extending plays with his feet, and even taking the ball himself. He carried the ball 73 times for 610 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2015.

I had a chance to discuss the recruiting process with Stetson and here’s what he had to say:

How’s recruiting going?
It’s going good. A couple teams have been looking at me. Yale, Harvard, Mercer, and Samford have been talking to me.

Do you have any offers right now?
No, not yet, but I’m trying to work on that.

Have you taken any visits lately? Do you have any planned in the near future?
I went on an unofficial visit to Florida. I don’t have any other ones planned right now, but if the chance comes along I would be open to it.

What are going to be the biggest deciding factors in making your decision?
Well, obviously, I want to go to a good program, somewhere where I think I can help them win. I don’t necessarily have to play as a soon as I get there, but just go and try to contribute. Also, academics will be a huge factor for me. I want to set myself up for life after football.

Is there a specific time you have in mind that you would like to make a decision by?
Honestly, right now, there’s no timetable for that. I would probably like for it to happen before the start of next football season or after the season ends, because during the season I just want to focus on my team, and making one last run at the state championship.
