Auburn Transfer Receives Waiver

Auburn transfer Jay Prosch will not be forced to sit out for one season after transferring from Illinois.

Auburn fullback Jay Prosch has received a waiver from the NCAA allowing him to play for the Tigers this season after transferring from Illinois at the conclusion of last season in order to be closer to his mother, Iris, who is battling cancer.

NCAA rules state that a student athlete must sit out one full season after transferring from one FBS program to another. In Prosch’s case, however, the NCAA decided to waive his “transfer season” due to his extreme circumstances.

Prosch, who is originally from Mobile, Alabama, was named a first-team All-American selection by Pro Football Weekly following his sophomore season in 2011.

Nicknamed “Jay-Dozer” due to his powerful blocking style, Prosch joined the Tigers in time to participate in spring practice and is expected to see plenty of action for Auburn at fullback this fall.

While Prosch is excited to be playing for his new team, he is even more thankful that he will be able to be closer to his ailing mother.

"I'm extremely blessed and very thankful to have my waiver cleared by the NCAA," Prosch said, according to the Birmingham News. "I'm excited and can't wait for my mother and family to be able to see me play this fall."

Prosch has two years of playing eligibility remaining.
