Chris Rodriguez, Jr. has been at his best when it matters most.

As conversations are beginning about this season's Heisman Trophy, Kentucky running back Chris Rodriguez, Jr. has to be considered a leading name.

It goes without saying that Rogriguez is a big reason why the Wildcats are now 5-0, rank as high as 14th in the national polls and are one of the stories of the year in college football. He leads the SEC in rushing by 163 yards and ranks 5th nationally with 621 rushing yards overall. In each of Kentucky's four FBS outings, Rodriguez has at least 99 yards rushing and is averaging 143.75 yards per game in those contests. He, one month into the season, leads all of college football with 17 runs of ten yards or more.

Going back to his showcase effort against Missouri in week two, Rodriguez is currently the only running back in the country with 200 rushing yards, two rushing touchdowns and a receiving score in a single game. He is, in fact, one of only five SEC players this entire millennium with those minimums, joining Brandon Bolden, Leonard Fournette, Kylin Hill and Jerious Norwood.

For a team that has won four games by one score, Rodriguez has been there to will Kentucky to wins. His late production helped the Wildcats close out Missouri, South Carolina and Florida, with his 9-yard score against the Gators with 11:32 remaining arguably being Kentucky's play of the year and helping the Wildcats to their first home win over Florida since 1986. Rodriguez has 30 carries in the fourth quarter alone this season, the second-highest total in the Power Five, and is averaging 7.4 yards per attempt in that span.

Rodriguez has been at his best when it matters most.

While Alabama quarterback Bryce Young is the early Heisman favorite, Rodriguez has clearly played his way into the conversation. Rodriguez has the record and the resume to prove it.

With upcoming games against LSU and Georgia, Rodriguez will have more opportunities to make plays on the big stage. So far, he has been one of college football's best.
