With the suspension of Josh Harvey-Clemons, the Bulldogs will most likely turn to Conner Norman to fill in when the team takes on nationally-ranked Clemson in Death Valley late in August.
Projected starting safety Josh Harvey-Clemons, a former five-star prospect, has been suspended for the first game of the 2013 season the University of Georgia confirmed on Tuesday.
Harvey-Clemons and Ty Flournoy-Smith, a tight end who recently announced that he is transferring from the program, were involved in a dorm room incident where the police were summoned to check on the possibility of marijuana being used.
Although the officers did not discover sufficient evidence to charge the players with possession of marijuana, both individuals admitted to having smoked marijuana in the dorm room prior to the police’s arrival.
While Harvey-Clemons does not face criminal charges from the event, Georgia’s policy on marijuana states that a player will be suspended for 10% of his team’s regular season games for the first time he is caught using the banned substance.
Harvey-Clemon’s suspension will be a major blow to a Georgia defense that is attempting to replace eight starters from last season. The Bulldogs are attempting to replace both of last season’s starters at safety.
A redshirt sophomore, Harvey-Clemons was named the Defensive MVP of Georgia’s recent spring practice session.
With his suspension, the Bulldogs will most likely turn to Conner Norman to fill in when the team takes on nationally-ranked Clemson in Death Valley late in August.
