Hot Read: Citadel Wins Close One

The Citadel moves to 2-0 on the season scoring late in the game once again this week to grab a win.

The Citadel moves to 2-0 on the season scoring late in the game once again this week to grab a win. 

Senior Quarterback Dominique Allen, who did not start last week due to being suspended nor this week due to a coaches decision, scored on a one yard run with 2:13 to give The Citadel a 19-14 lead.  Last week to open the season at Mercer the Bulldogs kicked a late Field Goal to win 24-23 in Macon. 

Furman had one more chance to with under two minutes to go but the drive ended with PJ Blazejowski’s third interception of the game. 

Turnovers led to a touchdown for each team in the first half. 

The Citadel fumbled the opening kickoff leading to Furman’s touchdown, a PJ Blazejowski to Andrej Suttles 12 yard pass with 12:38 left in 1st quarter.  A muffed punt by Suttles late in 2nd quarter that led to The Citadel’s second touchdown by Quarterback Jordan Black from a yard out to take a 13-7 lead into the locker room. 

Furman was not without their chances in the first half. 

Jon Croft Hollingsworth missed field goals from 51 and 47 yards, The Citadel did not attempt a pass until midway through the 3rd quarter. 

The win gives The Citadel an early leg up in the SOCON race at 2-0. 

Furman falls to 0-2 on the season. 

The Citadel travels to Gardner-Webb next week and the Paladins head home to face three-time defending SOCON Champions Chattanooga.
