The week one players of the week from the Southern Conference.

nSoCon Offensive Player of the Week: Troy Mitchell, Western Carolina — Threw for 374 yards and two touchdowns, adding 21 yards rushing and another score in a 36-31 loss to South Florida.

nSoCon Defensive Player of the Week: Jamerson Blount, Samford — Recorded ten total tackles, a forced fumble, a pass break-up and had a 55-yard interception return for a touchdown in a 48-14 loss to TCU.

nSoCon Special Teams Player of the Week: Chandler Curtis, Mercer — Had a key 91-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in a 45-42 victory over Reinhardt.

nSoCon Coach of the Week: Russ Heusman, Chattanooga — The Mocs nearly upset FBS Central Michigan, losing 20-16. Chattanooga jumped out to a 16-0 lead and held the Chippewas to just 321 total yards.

nSoCon X-Factor of the Week: Alex Lakes, Mercer — In the Bears’ debut as a Southern Conference team, Lakes ran 20 times for 110 yards and two touchdowns and scored the game-winner late in Mercer’s 45-42 victory over Reinhardt.
