Week Four's top players in the Southern Conference.

Offensive Player of the Week: Wofford quarterback Joe Newman led the Terriers to their first win of the season over Gardner-Webb 49-10. Newman ran for 155 yards and a touchdown and was 3 for 5 through the air for 67 yards and a touchdown. 

Defensive Player of the Week: Samford defensive back Ty Herring returned an interception 95 yards for a touchdown in the Bulldogs 55-21 win over Alabama A&M. Herring also recorded 4 tackles on the day.

Special Teams Player of the Week: East Tennessee State kicker Tyler Keltner made both of his field goals and both extra points in the Bucs 20-14 win over Austin Peay. Keltner made a 48-yard field goal in the first quarter and a 37-yard field goal with 1:38 left in the game to seal the Bucs victory. 

Coach of the Week: Furman coach Clay Hendrix led his Paladins to a 1-0 start in the SOCON for the first time in his three seasons with a 45-10 win over Mercer. The Paladins bounced back after two straight close losses to FBS teams Georgia State and Virginia Tech.

X Factor of the Week: Furman running back Corey Watkins rushed for 97 yards on 5 carries with two touchdowns, including an 83-yard run for a score in the Paladins 45-10 win over Mercer.
