Looking ahead to week seven in the SoCon.

 A season high six SoCon teams received votes in this week’s Stats FCS.com Top 25 Poll. Wofford, Samford, Western Carolina and The Citadel were all ranked among the nations best 25 FCS teams. Wofford at #5, Samford #19, Western Carolina #21 and The Citadel #23. Mercer and Furman both received votes from the panel of sportswriters around the country. 

Wofford continues to find ways to win close games. Four of Wofford’s five wins this season have been by a combined 12 points (24-23 over Furman, 28-27 over Mercer, 27-24 over Gardner-Webb, 35-28 over Western Carolina). Since the beginning of last year 11 of Wofford’s 19 games have been decided by 10 points or less. 

Mercer’s Lee Bennett became the SoCon’s first National Player of the Week of the season last week for his performance in the Bears upset win at The Citadel. Bennett tallied a career high 16 tackles from his Linebacker position along with one tackle for loss, two fumbles forced and a fumble recovery. Bennett helped the Bear defense hold The Citadel to just 201 yards rushing, 121 yards under their season average.
