Week Ten SoCon Award Winners

These were the best players in the SoCon during week ten.

Offensive Player of the Week: Samford quarterback Devlin Hodges passed for 399 yards and accounted for 5 touchdowns as he led the Bulldogs to an upset win over Wofford 35-20.  Hodges passed for 4 touchdowns and ran for another as the Bulldogs won their 4th game in a row.

Defensive Player of the Week: East Tennessee State’s Artevius Smith led the Bucs to their 6th SOCON win by three points or less as he notched two interceptions and 6 tackles in the Bucs 21-18 win over Mercer. 

Special Teams Player of the Week: Furman’s Grayson Atkins kicked three field goals for the Paladins in their 16-10 win over Chattanooga.  Atkins hit from 50 and 48 yards in the second quarter and his 28 yarder in the 4th quarter pushed Furman’s lead to 16-3. 

Coach of the Week: East Tennessee State’s Randy Sanders who is in his first year as the coach of the Bucs has positioned his team to winning at least a share of the SOCON Title.  All six of ETSU’s SOCON wins have come by three points or less.

X-Factor of the Week: East Tennessee State’s Quay Holmes rushed for 114 yards and two touchdowns and also caught a pass for a score as the Bucs took sole possession of first place in the SOCON with two weeks to play.
