For the second straight week Wofford wins a one-point game over a league foe.

For the second straight week (10) Wofford (2-0, 2-0) wins a one-point game over a league foe.

Last week the Terriers relied on a failed two-point conversion attempt by Furman to win 24-23.  This week, Wofford came from behind with two touchdowns in the final six minutes of the game to beat Mercer (1-1, 0-1) 28-27 on the road.

The Terriers also came up with two interceptions in the final two minutes to seal the victory.

Mercer scored two touchdowns in the first quarter to take a 14-0 lead almost as quickly as Wofford score their game winning two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

The Bears took the opening kickoff 91 yards to the 8-yard line before Kaelan Riley found Marquise Irvin for a 7-yard touchdown reception with 1:29 elapsed in the game.

After a Wofford punt on their first possession of the game, the Bears drove 72 yards in 9 plays scoring a touchdown on a 15-yard reception by Avery Ward.

Wofford began their comeback trailing 27-14 with a 10-yard Andre Stoddard touchdown run that capped a 6 play, 76-yard drive with 6:18 left in the game.

After a Mercer fumble, the Terriers took over at the Bears 29-yard line with 5:57 left.

The comeback was completed by a Blake Morgan 2-yard run on 4th and goal with 3:34 remaining capping a 5 play 29-yard drive.

Devin Watson and Terrance Morris picked off two Mercer passes in the final 3 minutes to thwart the Bears chance to steal a victory.

The Bears played their 23rd SoCon game on Saturday and are now 7-16 in those game since joining the league prior to the 2014 season.

Of Mercer’s 16 losses in SoCon play 12 of them have come by 10 or less points, 6 of those losses by 5 points or less.

Mercer travels to Auburn next week and Wofford will take a week off before hosting Gardner-Webb on September 23rd.
