Coastal Carolina earned the program's first-ever victory over a Power Five opponent, showing toughness and poise in a dramatic 12-7 triumph.

In what was a challenging week as the Coastal Carolina football team, and everyone in the area and on campus, dealt with Hurricane Dorian, the Chanticleers, playing on the road at Kansas, made history. Coastal Carolina earned the program's first-ever victory over a Power Five opponent, showing toughness and poise in a dramatic 12-7 triumph. Through trying circumstances and a disappointing start, the Chanticleers rallied to the record books.

Kansas opened the contest with an 8-play, 65-yard touchdown drive, a series highlighted by a 41-yard touchdown run. From there, Coastal Carolina responded with resolve.

The Chanticleers, from that point on, held the Jayhawks scoreless and to fewer than 200 offensive yards the rest of the way. From running back C.J. Marable and his two total touchdowns to cornerback Chandler Kryst and his two interceptions to linebacker Teddy Gallagher's late stops, there were showcase performances all over the field. This was a night where moments turned into memories. How the Chanticleers finished defined them more than their start.

This story ended with an exclamation point as Coastal Carolina stopped Kansas on downs on three consecutive drives to close out the game. Not long after having their toes in the sand, the Chanticleers simply drew a line in the dirt.

Making national headlines by defeating Les Miles and the Jayhawks, the win is a signature one for head coach Jamey Chadwell and the Coastal Carolina program. The Chanticleers have more than just a story here, they have momentum. Coastal Carolina has two more non-conference games before opening Sun Bent play at defending conference champion Appalachian State. Notably, the fast-rising Chanticleers will enter the next few weeks amidst a new narrative.

Coastal Carolina went through difficult circumstances to get to the big stage. There, the Chanticleers made the most of their opportunity.
