Appalachian State played its best game of the season in a blowout win over Troy.

Appalachian State at Troy:

This game was a huge statement for Appalachian State. The Mountaineers proved that they should not be in contention for being the bottom team in the Sun Belt. Appalachian State running back Marcus Cox led the offense by rushing for 123 yards and three touchdowns. Troy, after picking up an impressive win last week, is right back to the losing that the Trojans have grown so accustom to this season. Troy Jumped out to an early lead in this matchup by scoring the first touchdown. That was the only exciting moment for Troy, however, as the Trojans proceeded to lose in blowout fashion.

Score: 53-14 Appalachian State

New Mexico State at Idaho:

After starting the season off 2-0, New Mexico State has lost six straight and, as of now, looks to be the worst team in the Sun Belt. For two consecutive weeks now, New Mexico State has handed over wins to previously winless teams in Troy and Idaho. For Idaho, new quarterback Chad Chalich was the most productive offensive performer, throwing for 192 yards and a touchdown. Receiver Joshua McCain was Chalich’s main target throughout the game. McCain had 139 yards receiving and one touchdown in the win. This win for Idaho doesn’t really prove that the Vandals have improved much; it just proves that New Mexico State has gotten significantly worse.  Something needs to turn around really fast for the Aggies if they plan on winning again this season.

Score: 29-17 Idaho

Georgia State at South Alabama:

This was another close, painful loss for a Georgia State team that led 14-10 at halftime, and seemed to be on track for the win. The Panthers held a lead until South Alabama quarterback Brandon Bridge hit Danny Woodson for a touchdown with 4:02 left in the game. Georgia State quarterback Nick Arbuckle threw for a very impressive 311 yards and three touchdowns in the loss. Georgia State is always “so close”, but the Panthers just don’t know how to win yet.

Score: 30-27 South Alabama
