Earlier today, former Pierce County High School and University of Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett announced that he will be playing his college football at Jones County Junior College in 2018.

Earlier today, former Pierce County High School and University of Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett announced that he will be playing his college football at Jones County Junior College in 2018, on the Explosive Recruiting Show on the Southern Pigskin Radio Network.
The JUCO, currently led by Steve Buckley, has been the home of multiple former NFL standouts including Deion Branch, the MVP of Super Bowl XXXIX.
It had been known for a couple of weeks that Bennett had been planning to leave Athens, despite Head Coach Kirby Smart’s best efforts.
Following an illustrious high school career under Sean Pender at Pierce County (Ga.), Bennett held offers from Mercer, Samford, Middle Tennessee State, Georgia Southern, Southern Miss, Harvard, and Yale.
Even so, he ultimately chose to take a preferred walk-on spot at Georgia.
“I thought I was good enough to play,” he explained.
Even though things may not have played out as he would have hoped, Bennett insisted that he wouldn’t have it any other way.
“I think it has worked out well so far. I feel like I’d regret it if I wouldn’t have gone there (to Georgia) and not known.”
When the news broke, Junior College programs from around the nation came calling. Even after having made his decision, new would-be suitors continue to pour in.
He didn’t want to make a big show of the process and hoped to just pick a school and get it over with, but among some of the top teams in consideration were Mississippi Gulf Coast, Jones, Northeast, and Hutchinson CC, to name a few.
“The coaches and the fact that they’re (Jones) going to be pretty good this year were the deciding factors,” said Bennett.
Said to be undersized coming out of high school, there was never any denying that the south Georgia native could spin it. He will have ample opportunity to do so for Jones, just as he did throughout his storied three years as the starter for Coach Pender.
Bennett elaborated, “Jones’ offensive coordinator was a Rimington Award finalist for Oklahoma State and they run a similar offense to them.”
With the transfer quarterback market as active as it has ever been in college football, and such a widespread, dire need for talent at the game’s most important position, there is little doubt that Stetson Bennett will be a hot commodity following his year at Jones.
Eyes on the prize(s), Bennett continued, “I want to win a national championship and get a power five offer. That’s my goal for next season.”
A (singular) power five offer? Don’t be surprised if Bennett far surpasses that when it’s all said and done, just as he has his entire football playing life.
