Williams is creating his own legacy at a place where a number of the best receivers in the history of the game have played.

Alabama wide receiver Jameson Williams has been one of the best players in all of college football.

The Ohio State-transfer currently leads the nation with 228 kick return yards, a 45.6-yard average and two touchdowns, slots seventh in the SEC in receiving yards with 299 and is fifth nationally with 24.9 yards per reception. In the Crimson Tide’s three games versus FBS opponents, two of which came against nationally-tanked foes, he has nearly 500 all-purpose yards. Williams has scored five times in total. All of this production has come for the undefeated, top-ranked team in the country.

A year after DeVonta Smith’s Heisman Trophy-winning season, Williams has been an unparalleled playmaker all his own. He is creating his own legacy at a place where a number of the best receivers in the history of the game have played.

Williams promptly introduced himself with a game to remember in his Alabama debut. Playing 14th ranked Miami in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Williams caught four passes for 126 yards and a score. His first touchdown was one for the record books as Bryce Young found Williams for a 94-yard touchdown strike early in the third quarter; that conversion is tied for the second longest touchdown pass ever for the Crimson Tide.

Coming in from Columbus, Williams hit the ground running at Alabama. He hasn’t slowed down yet.

Last Saturday’s game against Southern Miss featured Williams having one of the most explosive games in recent college football memory. He opened the contest by returning the opening kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown. Williams later returned a fourth quarter kick 83 yards for a score. In between, he caught an 81-yard touchdown pass for good measure. Remarkably, he leads the nation with four all-purpose plays of 80 yards or more, with three of those highlights coming in one game.

There have been 61 total all-purpose plays this season of at least 80 yards; Williams has four of them.

Four games into his Alabama career, Williams is already one of just three SEC players over the last two decades with at least three receiving touchdowns and two kick return scores in a single season.

Along with his teammate Young, who is arguably the early Heisman Trophy favorite with over 71% passing and 15 touchdown passes compared to just one interception, Williams has earned leading consideration as well. There is nobody in college football currently doing what he is doing; few, ever, have.

Williams hasn’t been at Alabama long. His is already off to an all-time start.
