What is amazing about Young’s success isn’t just what he accomplished, but who he followed in doing so as well.

Bryce Young is the winner of the 2021 Heisman Trophy, becoming the first Alabama quarterback ever to win college football’s most prestigous individual award. It has been a truly remarkable season for Young, who boasts a college football-best 43-to-4 touchdown-to-interception ratio. Even in his first year as starter for the Crimson Tide, Young wasted no time writing his own legacy.

Debuting on the big stage, Young opened the season with 344 yards and four scores in a rout of Miami. There was then a combined 41-of-45 passing with ten touchdowns against Southern Miss and New Mexico State, 400-plus total yards versus Tennessee, a record-setting 559 yards with five scores against Arkansas, an iconic 97-yard drive at Auburn and, most recently and most prominently, an SEC Championship Game-high 421 passing yards against in an MVP effort versus Georgia’s generational defense.

Young didn’t just make history Saturday night; it’s been a stunning week-to-week standard that he set right away.

What is amazing about Young’s success isn’t just what he accomplished, but who he followed in doing so as well. Stepping into the spotlight of replacing superstars Mac Jones, Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts, all past Heisman Trophy finalists and current NFL starters, Young embraced the pressure of both Alabama and its predecessors and promptly had one of the greatest seasons in college football history.

At a program where it takes milestones to make the media guide, Young already has an all-time place. Just now getting started, he has a reservation in the halls of history.

What Young has done is follow in the footsteps of some of the best to ever do it and somehow add to a storied status quo.
