Currently there is a possible military coup starting in Turkey.  Prime Minister and Military both say they are in control of the country.  Bridges and roads being closed, fighter jets flying low over the city, president being interviewed via skype looking like he’s in hiding.  It’s getting crazy.  According to reports now Turkish military has imposed martial law.

Is this a good thing or bad thing.  It’s a NATO country and a base of operations for us to jump easily into the Middle East.  Think the military wants to lock down the borders to Syria especially after the airport attack recently?  Could be a good thing…..

While the US can never publicly say this is a good thing…i think this is a good thing.

Turkey is one of those countries democratically turning itself Islamist. The military is inherently secular and won’t tolerate it. Think Egypt.

Thats about how I feel as well.  Hearing the US has a better relationship with the Turkish military than it’s president anyway.

Although they can be dickheads as well…just try going thru Incirlik AB if you ever want to find out what great allies we are.
