Kevin Sumlin and the Texas A&M coaching staff picked up a huge pair of verbal commitments over the last two days, as defensive end Jarrett Johnson and quarterback Kyle Allen became commitments No. 11 and 12 for the Aggies.

Up until this weekend, it had been nearly three months since the Texas A&M Aggies had received their last verbal commitment for the class of 2014.

Apparently, that extended layoff did not do much in terms of dampening the Aggies’ recruiting momentum.

Kevin Sumlin and the Texas A&M coaching staff picked up a huge pair of verbal commitments over the last two days, as defensive end Jarrett Johnson and quarterback Kyle Allen became commitments No. 11 and 12 for the Aggies.

Johnson, who is currently ranked as a four-star prospect, chose the Aggies over offers from fellow Midwest powers Texas and Oklahoma. At 6-3, 225 pounds, Johnson has been compared to former Texas defensive end Brian Orakpo.

The momentum generated by Johnson’s announcement over the weekend continued into Monday, as Allen, who is ranked as the top quarterback prospect in the nation by Scout.com, chose the Aggies over a multitude of high-profile offers.

An Arizona resident, Allen is not a dual-threat signal caller like Johnny Manziel, but Sumlin has had plenty of success working with traditional pocket passers in the past.

With their recent commitments, the Aggies now have the No.1 recruiting class in the nation for 2014 according to Scout, Rivals and ESPN.

Coupled together with their most recent recruiting haul, the Aggies are building the foundation to become a perennial contender in the SEC West.
