An all-conference style team comprised of SP Editor Jim Johnson's favorite players from 2017.

QB -- Lamar Jackson, Louisville

It’s taken a while to get here, but I’m now comfortable saying that Lamar Jackson is the best college quarterback I’ve ever seen. He’s not necessarily the greatest -- that carries a different connotation -- but from a talent, production, and dynamism perspective, there’s no historical precedent. In any case, he is my favorite college football player to watch, ever.

I even wrote a haiku about him…

Lamar Jackson, GOAT
He will embarrass you, fam
Deserved the Heisman

RB -- Derrius Guice, LSU

RB -- Travis Etienne, Clemson

Etienne is what it would have been like if Dash had been allowed to play football in The Incredibles. Unfortunately, the Parr family parents were wild lame. More like the sub-Parr’s.

WR -- Christian Kirk, Texas A&M

He’s not the biggest guy, he might be the fastest guy, he’s definitely one of the most exciting guys. What he did this year, with, and this is charitable, less than stellar quarterback play was effectively a miracle.

WR -- Penny Hart, Georgia State

WR -- Jaleel Scott, New Mexico State

TE -- Jaylen Samuels, NC State

I’ve long been a proponent of utilizing the cloning technology that I know exists to create a football team comprised entirely of Jaylen Samuels’s. I contend that eleven of him could cruise to bowl eligibility, and, depending on the schedule, possibly earn a playoff berth.

OT -- Greg Little, Ole Miss

He’s like a giant Diana Vishneva in pass pro.

OT -- Justin Herron, Wake Forest

Makes offensive line play look pretty.

OG -- Deion Calhoun, Mississippi State

Particularly effective at taking other abnormally large humans and driving them into the earth’s very crust.

OG -- Lester Cotton, Alabama

Once ate an opposing interior defender. I swear, I saw it with my own two eyes.

C -- Frank Ragnow, Arkansas

(insert goat emoji)

DE -- Bradley Chubb, NC State

DL -- Dee Liner, Arkansas State

When I was walking around the sidelines at an Arkansas State game, earlier this season, Liner asked me to take a picture of him and then hit one of the most objectively attractive poses a defensive lineman ever has. He then proceeded to start dancing. And he has the greatest name of all time. At least the most fitting, that is.

DT -- Dexter Lawrence, Clemson

EDGE -- Ja’Von Rolland-Jones

Has a chance to leave Arkansas State as the all-time career FBS sack leader.

LB -- Roquan Smith, Georgia

Roquan Smith has never done anything not perfectly in his whole life and from here on out if he makes a mistake it actually becomes the new right way to do said activity.

LB -- Tremaine Edmunds, Virginia Tech

Maybe the most physically imposing linebacker in the country.

LB -- Micah Kiser, Virginia

Don’t fact check this, but I’m nearly certain he made the tackle on every play of every UVA game… like including against his own offense. He definitely sacked Kurt Benkert at least once.

CB -- Jaire Alexander, Louisville

The best cornerback in America, when healthy.

CB -- Marcus Jones, Troy

Has scored more touchdowns than Calvin Ridley this year. He doesn’t play offense. One of the most cerebral young players in the sport.

CB -- Malek Young, Miami

Introduced us to the almighty TURNOVER CHAIN.

S -- Ronnie Harrison, Alabama

Don’t get him excited. This will happen:

S -- Kris Weatherspoon, Troy

One of the most versatile, underrated defenders in all of college football.

K -- Rodrigo Blankenship, Georgia

Rocks the rec specs. Has made over 88% of his field goals, without missing an extra point. And this:

P -- Johnny Townsend, Florida

Bombs punts, too.

KR -- Deebo Samuel, South Carolina

Scored a touchdown on literally 100% of his kick returns, prior to getting hurt. I miss you, Deebo.

PR -- DJ Chark, LSU

DJ Chark is so fast that he makes other fast people look not fast.

AP -- Detrez Newsome, Western Carolina
