Georgia and Alabama rank one-two in the first College Football Playoff Poll.

Georgia and Alabama enter November as college football's leading names as the Bulldogs, surprisingly to some, and Crimson Tide rank one-two in the debut edition of this season's College Football Playoff Poll. Two of the nation's four power-five unbeatens, Georgia and Alabama have been the game's two most-impressive teams. They appear to be poised for a clash of the titans in the SEC Championship Game on Saturday, December 2nd at Atlanta's new Mercedes-Benz Stadium -- the site, roughly five weeks later, of the College Football Playoff National Championship.

The similarities, between the nation's two best teams, are striking. Former Crimson Tide coordinator Kirby Smart has duplicated Nick Saban's style with the Bulldogs. Alabama ranks number one in the SEC in rushing offense, rushing defense, scoring defense and total defense; Georgia slots second leaguewide in each one of those categories. The 8-0 Crimson Tide have outscored their opponents 344-78, with the 8-0 Bulldogs topping foes by a margin of 305-95. At this point, Georgia's win at Notre Dame appears to be the separating factor.

Interestingly enough, the toughest scheduled challenge remaining may very well be the same for both: Auburn in Jordan-Hare Stadium. Should Alabama and Georgia finish the regular season undefeated, the SEC Championship Game would await as both an incredible matchup and, as it would pertain to the playoff, a fascinating dynamic. The Bulldogs and Crimson Tide could soon become the first two teams from the same conference to make the famed final four.

Ahead of third-seeded Notre Dame and fourth-seeded Clemson, Georgia and Alabama are currently out in front in the race towards a national championship. As the season heads down the home stretch, the SEC is prominently positioned.
