A title would be a great ending to a legendary career, but regardless of the outcome, 2013 is setting up to be a memorable season for Aaron Murray and the Georgia Bulldogs.

Aaron Murray has already established himself as one of the best quarterbacks in Georgia Bulldogs history, with his senior year yet to be played.

After becoming the first Georgia quarterback to throw for 3,000 yards in three straight seasons, he needs only 1,438 yards to surpass David Greene for the most career passing yards in school history.  Murray already holds the school record for the most career touchdown passes with 95, a record he broke seven games into his junior season.

Former Georgia tight end Orson Charles, a college and high school teammate of Murray’s, was on the receiving end of more than a few of those yards.

According to Charles, people sometimes confuse Murray’s extremely competitive nature as cockiness, but it’s just his way of displaying how passionate he is about his team’s success.

“He’s a great competitor and somebody that I definitely enjoyed and miss being on the same team as,” Charles told Southern Pigskin.

Despite the increased offensive production, Murray has proven to be an excellent decision-maker, having thrown only 32 interceptions and completing 61.5 percent of his passes over his first three seasons under center.

Murray has improved his yardage and touchdown totals each year, and is on pace to finish his career with 13,454 yards and 126 touchdowns.  If that pace holds up, he would not only lead both categories in school history, but also in SEC history.

Bulldog legend Buck Belue, who quarterbacked Georgia to the 1980 national title, has followed Murray’s college career and has developed a respect and admiration for Georgia’s current signal caller.

“He’s had a rare honor of being a leader and a captain for multiple seasons, that’s been very impressive,” Belue told Southern Pigskin.  “What I like is it’s not just the stat sheet, this guy’s making an impact there on campus, helping lead the way.”

The only missing piece in Murray’s college resume is a title to show for all of his statistical success.  The last two seasons Georgia has taken the short trip from Athens, Ga. to Atlanta to play for the SEC championship.

In 2011, the Bulldogs held a 10-7 halftime lead before allowing LSU to score 35 unanswered second half points in route to a 42-10 loss.  Last fall, the Bulldogs returned to Atlanta and were five yards away from defeating Alabama and playing in the BCS National Title Game against Notre Dame.

The goal of Murray’s senior season is centered on returning to Atlanta for a third straight year, but this time finishing the job and bringing a title back to Athens.

“This guy’s driven to win a championship here, it’s all about the right things and I’m proud of him,” Belue expressed.

A title would be a great ending to a legendary career, but regardless of the outcome, 2013 is setting up to be a memorable season for Murray and the Bulldogs.

“Years from now when people look back and talk about guys that had great careers at Georgia, Aaron Murray’s going to be sitting at the table,” Belue said.
