Rasheen Ali is taking time away from football.

One of the most productive running backs in college football is taking time away from the sport. Marshall head coach Charles Huff announced in a statement that star back Rasheen Ali will be taking a leave of absence and will miss at least a portion of the upcoming season.

Charles Huff via Luke Creasy, The Herald-Dispatch:

“Rasheen will be away from the team for some time, and as soon as he is mentally, physically and emotionally ready to return, he will be back. Our team and staff are doing a great job of supporting him and we are looking forward to getting him back soon. We do not have an anticipated return date at this time. When we do, we will let everyone know. Out of privacy and respect for Rasheen and his familv, we will not comment further on this topic until he is back with us.”

Ali was one of the nation’s best backs in 2021,totaling 1,735 yards and 24 touchdowns on 295 touches. Marshall is entering its first season in the Sun Belt.

The Thundering Herd will kick off their season Sept. 3 against Norfolk State, before heading to Notre Dame on Sept. 10.
